TOPIC 1 ( : Write about a person you love or admire

My mother is a person I admire most. She devoted a lot of time and energy to the upbringing of my two brothers and I. Despite working hard, she always made time to teach us many useful things which are necessary and important in our later lives. Moreover, she is a good role model for me to follow. She always tries to get on well with people who live next door and help everyone when they are in difficulties, so most of them respect and love her. I admire and look up to my mother because she not only brings me up well but also stands by me and gives some help if necessary. For example, when I encounter some difficulties, she will give me some precious advice to help me solve those problems. She has a major influence on me and I hope that I will inherit some of her traits.

Will people still read books 100 years from now? A few years ago, many people would have said no. It seemed likely that computers and the Internet would replace books. Now, however, most experts think that books are here to stay.

There are a number of reasons why computers will not replace books entirely. One reason is that books on paper are much cheaper than computers. And books do not need a power source. You can read a book for as long as you want and wherever you want. You never have to worry about losing power. Also, many people feel more comfortable reading woeds in a book than reading woeds on a computer screen because it is less tiring to the eyes.

Will books in the future be exactly the same as the books you can buy today? The answer to that question is no. In the future, you may only need to buy one book. With this one book, you will be able to read novels, plays, and newspapers. It will look like today's books, but it will be electronic.

One of the people working on the book of the future is Professor joseph Jacobson from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Jacobson's electronic book will have a small button on the side. When you oress the button, woeds will instantlu appear on the page. When you want to read a different story, you can push the button again and a new story will quickly appear.

1. The phrase are here to stay in the first paragraph mostly means .......

2. Which of the following is true according to the passage ?

3. What will the book of the future look like?

4.The button on the side of the electronic book is used....

5.What is the main topic of the passage?

If you want to take the whole family on holiday, and keep everybody happy, then I have found just the place for you. I recently went with a group of friends to stay at the Greenwood Holiday Village, which  is open from May until October.

Built in the centre of a forest, Greenwood is a great place to stay whatever the weather. Its main attraction for families is the indoor World of Water, where young and old can have fun in the different pools. Some of these, however, are for serious swimmers only.

For sporty people, the Country Club offers tennis, squash and badminton. If your children are too  young to join in these sports, there are activity clubs. Greenwood is a good place for families as it is traffic- free (you explore on foot or by bike). Some people complained that this was inconvenient, but I was  please to be out in the fresh air. For evening entertainment, there are shows and cinemas.

Accommodation is in a variety of apartments of different sizes. These have up to four bedrooms, a  kitchen and a bathroom, as well as a dining area. Before going, I thought the apartments might be not big enough for all of us, but I was pleasantly surprised- it was not too crowded at all.

I’ll definitely go back to Greenwood next year. Why don’t you give it a try? Visit their website for further information now!

1. When is the  Greenwood Holiday Village open every year?

B. To describe what his family did at the holiday village

C. To give advice to a friend going to the holiday village
