Water pollution is one of the most serious environmental problems. It occurs when water is contaminated by such substances as human and animal wastes, toxic industrial chemicals, agricultural residues, oil and heat. Most of our water bodies— rivers, lakes, seas, oceans, estuaries and underground water sources are gradually becoming polluted. In the course "Covered so far, you have seen how deforestation, urbanization, intensive agriculture and industrialization have caused pollution of water bodies. You are familiar with various aspects of air pollution, including harmful effects of acid rain. In this unit we will summaries various types of water pollution caused by different pollution sources, and also explain some important concepts such as point and non-point sources, biological oxygen demand (BOD), eutrophication, self-purification capacity of natural waters, infiltration of pollutants to groundwater, thermal pollution and pollution caused by accidents in oil tanker ships. In the next unit you will read about the degradation of land resources and terrestrial features of earth. Polluted water may look clean or dirty, but it invariably contains germs, chemicals or other materials that can cause inconvenience, illness or death.
Currently, the earth is heavily polluted, causing water pollution and air pollution. The main cause of pollution is the lack of human awareness, but partly due to floods, storms, melting snow, drought, ... are also factors that seriously affect the above water sources. Earth. Surely this all of us can also feel. The consequences of pollution are severe. It caused acid rain in European countries, destroying everything in its path. In addition, air pollution causes a variety of respiratory-related illnesses that are very serious, and studies show that air pollution can increase the frequency of respiratory allergies, particularly. are people living in urban compared to rural residents. Children raised in heavily polluted areas are more likely to experience structural changes in the nasal mucosa. This can cause airway weakness, lung infection and inflammation. Not only that, even more horrible is that it is also causing a hole in the ozone layer of the greenhouse effect, making the earth gradually warming. The melting ice at the poles makes the sea level rise higher and higher, causing flooding in lowland areas. It can also cause cancer, one of the most terrible and difficult to cure diseases at that time. We can see the horrors of pollution, so let's protect the environment together, the consequences will be greatly reduced.

Nowadays, pollution is a popular term with everyone in the world and air pollution is one type of pollution. The definition of air pollution is one such form that refers to the contamination of the air, irrespective of indoors or outside. A physical, biological or chemical alteration to the air in the atmosphere can be termed as pollution. There are some main reasons which cause air contamination such as burning of fossil fuels, agricultural activities, exhaust from factories and industries, mining operations, and indoor air pollution. Air pollution always has bad effects on our life. Harmful gases, dust, and smoke enter into the atmosphere and make it difficult for plants, animals and humans to survive. We also can see some examples of the result of air contamination which occurs around us as global warming, acid rain, and depletion of ozone layer. The effects of air pollution are alarming, so governments over the world should have suitable policies of protecting the environment, especially air quality to create a clean world for our generation in the future.
Fresh water is the most important source of life on the earth. Any living thing may survive without food for days however it is impossible to imagine life without water and oxygen. The ever increasing human population enhances the demand of more water for purposes like drinking, washing, performing industrial processes, irrigating crops, arranging swimming pools and other water-sports centres. Water pollution is done by the people of all over the world because of increasing demands and competitions of luxuries life. Waste products from many human activities are spoiling the whole water and decreasing the amount of oxygen available in the water. Such pollutants are altering the physical, chemical, thermal, and biological characteristics of the water and adversely affecting the lives inside as well as outside the water.
When we drink the polluted water, harmful chemicals and other pollutants goes inside our body and deteriorates all the body organs functioning and puts our lives in danger. Such harmful chemicals also disturb the lives of animals and plants greatly. When plants absorb dirty water through their roots, they stop growing and die. Thousands of seabirds are killing because of the oil spilling from ships and industries. High level of water pollution is done due to the chemicals coming out of the agricultural usage of fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides. The effect of water pollution varies from place to place upon the type and amount of water contamination. The degradation of drinking water needs an urgent basis prevention method which is possible by the proper understanding and support from the end of each and every person living on the earth.

Natural disasters are one of the biggest problems that people have to face to face nowadays. So does Vietnam, we are against natural disasters. The most common natural disasters in Vietnam are hurricanes. The hurricanes can cause damage to houses and peoples. A lot of people lost homes so they don’t have a place to live in. Not only that, they also suffer the pain of losing their relatives. According to statistics, the hurricanes in Vietnam made about 230 people die and a lot of people can’t be found. What is more dangerous than it causes the flood. Flooding is also a dangerous natural disaster because it can cause harm like a hurricane... Additionally, it can make the water line polluted and this is one of the causes that make people and animals sick. From these arguments, we can know about the harmfulness of hurricanes and floods so I will tell you some ways to prevent the hurricanes and floods. First, you should always update the news about the hurricanes. Second, you should prepare essential things such as water, food, clothes, medicines, first-aid-kits,...Third, we should reinforce our house and always be ready to evacuate. In conclusion, I can say that natural disasters are extremely dangerous, but we can prevent them by doing what I say.

Flood is considered as one of the most dangerous disasters in the world. There was a “historical flood” that happened in Hanoi in 2008. This must be a year that Hanoians can never forget because the rain was so heavy and lasted for many days consecutively that inundated many streets of Hanoi. The rain was considered heaviest in the last 100 years, which caused people to suffer from a lot of damage. According to statistics, many families even suffered from inundation as high level of water flew into their houses. Offices or schools had to make emergency announcement to let their employees and students be at home to avoid any potential accidents that may caused by the pouring rain. Life then had a lot of disturbance and people had to wait until it stopped raining. The rain triggered inconvenience for people in different fields as high death toll was recorded, traffic was in no order or people stood a high chance of dangerous epidemics. Luckily, after a few days, life began to come back to the way it was thanks to concerted effort of both local authority and many people of the city.1/

Perilous pollutants may contain various types of impurities including harmful chemicals, dissolved gases, suspended matters, dissolved minerals, and even microbes. All the contaminants reduce the level of dissolved oxygen in the water and affecting the lives of animals and human beings to a great extent. Dissolved oxygen is the oxygen present in water required by the aquatic system to continue the lives of plants and animals. However biochemical oxygen is the demanded oxygen by the aerobic micro-organisms to oxidize organic matters of wastes. Water pollution is caused by two means, one is natural water pollution ( due to the leaching of rocks, decay of organic matters, decay of dead matters, silting, soil erosion, etc ) and another one is man-made water pollution ( due to the deforestation, set up of industries near large water bodies, high level emission of industrial wastes, domestic sewage, synthetic chemicals, radio-active wastes, fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides etc )
Light pollution has become a great concern in my neíghborhood. It occurs because of the overuse of lighting on the street and ỉn the households. A consequence of light pollution is energy consumption that can cause further problems to the environment. It also results ỉn significant health problems such as headache and sleeping disorder. The overuse of light may even lead to accident because the glare from outdoor lighting decreases our vision. To solve this problem, I think the govemment should consider more carefully where lights are placed. Moreover, people should use more efiicient and energy-saving bulbs in their house. Finally it is important to educate people to use light modemtely. If all the residents share the same responsibility, then the issue may be solved soon.
