1,3. In Vietnam there are many festivals. Most festivals are wonderful and interesting. Here I would like to tell a few festivals that I think are the most important. The first is the Hung Temple Festival - the death anniversary of King Hung Vuong. This is a traditional festival of Vietnamese people commemorating Hung Vuong's country building. A traditional ceremony is held annually on the 10th day of the third month of the lunar calendar at Hung Temple. Next is the Perfume pagoda festival. Perfume Pagoda is a famous landmark. Unlike any pagoda, Huong pagoda makes a collection of many caves and pagodas in a combined structure that is both natural and artificial. The attraction of Huong Son is not only on the outside but also on the inside. That is the deep beauty rich in folk philosophy of the cave. Therefore, the Huong pagoda festival is one of the most interesting in Vietnam. Thirdly, the Bai Dinh pagoda festival is a pilgrimage festival to the ancient capital of Hoa Lu in Ninh Binh province. The annual Bai Dinh festival always attracts many tourists to participate. Tourists come here not only to worship and offer incense to Buddha but also to travel to spring, to admire the magnificent scenery, to mingle with the vast and pure sacred space in the Buddha realm. In Loc Vuong Ward, Nam Dinh City, Nam Dinh Province, Tran Temple Festival is held from 15th to 20th of the eighth lunar month every year in Loc Vuong ward, Nam Dinh city, Nam Dinh province to gratitude for the work of 14 Tran kings. Since 2000, Nam Dinh has held the Opening Ceremony of Tran Temple at dawn on January 15. At first, the custom of opening the seal was confined to the village of Tuc Mac, gradually becoming a great festival. The above are just some of the wonderful festivals in Vietnam, I like the most, the ceremony to Hung because it shows the gratitude of our people to the Hung kings for making the country.

Festivals are spices of life. They add charm and colour to our daily life. They break the monotony of life. That is why, people eagerly wait for festivals and spend so much of money and time in celebrating various festivals. India is a land of various religions, cultures and races, each having a variety of festivals of their own. Holi, Dussehra, Diwali, Maha Shivaratri, Easter, Christmas, Id-ul-Fitr, Muharram, etc. are the major festivals of India. Among these Christmas is one of the most joyful festivals of the world.
Generally, Christmas is celebrated on December 25th all over the world. It is a celebration of the remembrance of the birth of Jesus Christ who is supposed to be the saviour and redeemer of the world.
ADVERTISEMENTS:
Christians believe that Jesus Christ was born in a manger at Bethlehem in Israel about two thousand years ago. That event is remembered on this day. Christians make Christmas cribs in resemblance of Bethlehem manger and adorn it with decorated Christmas trees, lighted lamps and stars.
A significant aspect of Christmas is the greetings and wishes which are sent to friends, relatives and well-wishers. Christmas cards have become so universal that today men of all religion and caste send them to their friends and relatives. No other festival can claim such a trend. Thus, it is a festival for all the people of the world. On this day people exchange greetings and share meals.

For Vietnamese, Lunar New year is the most important festival of a year because it is the beginning of a year. If we have a good beginning throughout first three days of year, we will have much luck during that year. Therefore, the activity of welcoming Tet festival is celebrated carefully in order to avoid unfortunate mistakes. And according to each area of the country, Vietnamese have different ways. Although I am a Vietnamese, I don’t know how families in other parts of my country welcome Tet holiday. My family, an age –old Southern family, usually celebrates Tet as this following way. Tet holiday begins on twenty-ninth of December. We start on decorating our house and preparing food for tet holiday. My father and I are responsible for tidying up our house. Quickly, the house becomes splendid with a very beautiful apricot blossom full of sweet-smelling blooming flowers in the middle of living room. On the branches, we also put some lovely greeting cards which make the tree more beautiful. When we finish our duties, my mother and sister also finish cooking. The kitchen is now full of delicious dishes whose smell float into the air. We usually keep many kinds of food in our kitchen in New Year festival. At lunch, we prepare a big feast to donate the ancestors. At the New Year‘s Eve, our family usually gather together. We watch television or play some traditional games. Until the clock strikes twelve tones to signal the moment of a new year, we donate the ancestors again. Then, my sister and I say “happy new year” to my parents and get lucky money from them. Next, we have a big meal to welcome New Year. Although all of us say nothing about our senses at that time, I know every body is cheerful and hopes for a lucky year. In three Tet days, we are usually well-dress to visit our relatives, teachers. We bring offerings to sacrifice ancestral altars, congratulate the olds on advancing in years and say New Year’s greetings to the others. Although we all are quite tired in these days, we are really joyful. Thanks to Tet holiday, we become closer and closer. Tet festival is very significant for Vietnamese, and these are all of my Tet holiday. I hope every year we have three great Tet days so that we have an extremely smooth year.
Festivals in Vietnam offer visitors the best opportunity for getting up close and personal with the myths, customs and fun-loving spirit of this proud nation. Despite undergoing modern developments, Vietnam is still a predominantly traditional country, with thousands of pagodas and shrines dedicated to Buddha as well as various deities and iconic figures. There are also plenty of cultural events that are only celebrated during certain times of the year (or years), so you’ll never know when one decides to pop up during your travels. We’ve compiled a list of the best festivals in Vietnam, and while they’re celebrated just about anywhere in the country, we’ve included some suggestions on the best places so that you can fully experience these one-of-a-kind events during your holiday.

King Hung Temple Festival is a traditional festival that is considered the national festival in Vietnam. The festival commemorates the merit of the first King of Vietnam - Hung Kings. It's an occasion for every Vietnamese to remember their origin and express their respect as well as gratitude to the ancestors of Vietnamese people. It is from 8th to 11th of the third lunar month in Phu Tho Province. This festival is impressive because there are many people joining it. The main activities are: offering to Hung Kings, bamboo swings, Lion dances, wrestling and xoan singing performances. I like this festival very much because it is so meaningful and I also like its joyfulness. Joining the pilgrimage to the ancestral land of King Hung Temple these days has become a beautiful tradition of Vietnamese people.
Hello, JK!
How are you now? Do you miss me? I'm Hung, I very miss you so I write this letter for you to know your health and tell you about a festival I have just attended.
As you know, there are many different and interesting festivals around the world such as Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Valentine's day and so on. But for me Tet holiday is the best festival I have attended because of many reasons.
I joined Tet holiday some weeks ago. I and my family prepared a lot of things before Tet. We cleaned our house clearly, decorated it with lót of colourful flowers and lights. My mother and I also cooked banh chung - a traditional cake of Vietnamese together. She taught me how to cook and wrap it. It was a wonderful time for me. Tet is a time for all family members get together and have dinner. At Tet, my mother bought me many new and beautiful clothes. I very loved it! On the first day of Tet, we went to the pagoda and visited our relatives. I got lucky money from adults. This is the best thing I like on Tet holiday. My family took me to many places to play. What a wonderful memory!
How about you? What festival do you like best? Let's write me soon. I am looking forward to receiving your letter.
Love you JK,
Hung

Hung Kings Commemoration Day - 10th day of Third Lunar month
This is to honour the Hung Kings. According to historical records and Vietnamese traditions, the Hung Kings were the founders of Vietnam. Hung Kings Commemoration Day is oriented around the themes of filial piety, ancestor worship, and patriotism. While this holiday is observed over the course of several days, the most important celebrations occur on the 10th day of the third lunar month. For many people, Hung Kings Commemoration Day is a joyous occasion that is centered around traditional Vietnamese culture and values.
Lunar New Year Festival often falls between late January and early February; it is among the most important holidays in Vietnam. Officially, the festival includes the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day in Lunar Calendar; however, Vietnamese people often spend about nearly a month to celebrate this special event.
Since Tet occupies an important role in Vietnamese’s religious beliefs, Vietnamese will begin their preparations well in advance of the upcoming New Year. In an effort to get rid of the bad luck of the old year, people will spend a few days cleaning their homes, polishing every utensil, or even repaint and decorate the house with kumquat tree, branches of peach blossom, and many other colorful flowers. The ancestral altar is especially taken care of, with careful decoration of five kinds of fruits and votive papers, along with many religious rituals. Everybody, especially children, buy new clothes and shoes to wear on the first days of New Year. People also try to pay all their pending debts and resolve all the arguments among colleagues, friends or members of family.
Vietnamese believe that the color of red and yellow will bring good fortune, which may explain why these colors can be seen everywhere in Lunar New Year. People consider what they do on the dawn of Tet will determine their fate for the whole year, hence people always smile and behave as nice as they can in the hope for a better year. Besides, gifts are exchanged between family members and friends and relatives, while children receive lucky moneykept in red envelope. No matter where Tet is celebrated, it must be clarified from the beginning that Tet is not a day, but several days of celebration.
