Historical records say during the 8th lunar month of the Canh Tuat Year 1070, King Ly Thanh Tong built several important monuments. Van Mieu (The Temple of Literature) was among them. In 1076, King Ly Nhan Tong ordered the building of Vietnam’s first university, Quoc Tu Giam (National University), near Van Mieu. From 1067-1779 Quoc Tu Giam educated thousands of talented men for Vietnam. Among them are famous people such as the mathematician Luong The Vinh, the historian Ngo Sy Lien and the diplomat Ngo Thi Nham.
After more than 900 years, Quoc Tu Giam is still in good condition because it has been well preserved
