For many people the language of the Internet is English. “World, Wide, Web: Three English Words” was the name of an article by Michael Specter in the New York Times a few years ago. The article went on to say: “If you want to take full advantage of the Internet, there is only one real way to do it: learn English.”

In general, it is not difficult to learn to use Internet services. But although Internet services are rather easy to use, you will have considerable difficulties if you are not familiar with English. In fact, a good knowledge of English is one of the most important aspects that help you use the Internet.

Learning to use a new Internet service may take a few hours, a few days or some weeks, but it takes years to learn a language so that you can use it fluently and confidently. Of course, when you know some English, you can learn more just by using it on the Internet. But at least your English should be good enough to understand commonly used words and to know what to do on the Internet.

an interview  with Marcia Clark

can i ask you a few questions?

sure you can

what do you do?

i write Teen trouble. i answer letters from teebagers and make suggestions

how do teens contact you?

ok most of the letters are e-mails

Teenagers e-mail the magazine, then the magazine sends the e-mails me. i read about 50 e-mails every day. i choose a few very interesting letters for the magazine

can we see the e-mails?

Absolutely not! teenagers share serious problems with me. sometimes they are secret. You can read the letters that we put in the magazine, but you can't read the others

what about telling us about the main problems teens write about?

that's a good idea. a lot of teens ask for permission to do things:"can i get a tattoo?","can dye my hair blue?"their parents say "no" , so they ask me.but i can't say"i'll think about it" or "sorry, you can't". that isn't  my job! So i say "what about talking to your parents?" or " why don't you wait and think about it?"

i make suggestions

thank you for talking with us

you're welcomel

answer the questions

1 why can't you read all of the letters?
