I remember that when I was in 5th grade, my class was good at studying, reacted aggressively in all activities of the school so it was very popular with teachers and friends. In grade 5, the exam that we are most interested in is the excellent student exam. I have chosen to send gold to send the task of taking good students. I have to say I was proud and proud to do so. And I know that besides me, there is no one qualified to take this exam. At that time, I was a smug little girl, always thought I was good and despise the people around. Ms. Thu enthusiastically study for me, I also try my best to study under the guidance of her.

Two days before the exam I allowed myself to rest for the day with the most comfortable spirit. I am very confident in what I have learned. On the day of the competition everyone happy to wish me success, won high. I completed the excellent essay for Literature, but Mathematics was a terrible failure. The best thing I can do is not to do it, because I volunteered to ignore it because I thought it was too simple to put on a good student exam. I lost my spirits from that moment, suddenly all the knowledge in my head flew away, I can not remember anything anymore. Even if I try my best, I can not regain my composure. And then I knew that I would not get any awards in this competition. Every wish, expectation of everyone or myself, all the smoke.

I step out of the examination room with a somber face, I do not want to meet anyone, just want to hide all the most is Ms. Thu who dedicatedly told me. I still remember as she wrote: "Whatever form of paper, whether hard or easy you must also scrutinize, do not subject yourself to any offline," she repeats it over and over again. many times. However, just because of the subjectivity, just because of arrogance, self-thinking good giang has made every hope of her break. I know how to face her, tell her how disappointing results this time.

The next day I always tried to avoid her, I was afraid to face, to explain to her, I was afraid to look her sad eyes. But I could not avoid it, that day, when she finished school she called me back to class. It was a talk that I would never forget the words she said later, the words she taught:

- Yesterday, she received the results of the excellent student exam, the subject children do very well by 9 points, but Math is too bad. I know your exam this time is not good since you left the examination room. But can you tell me why, math is so bad? She knows how good she is, she believes she can do well. So that…

"Your child, your child did not review you part ... I ... I ... really sorry for you. I am very angry with myself. Angry because of subjective self, has made her and everyone disappointed, ...

I sobbed, sorry for you, to say that my heart felt so much lighter. Listening to my words, she patted her shoulders lightly, hugging me to say,

- Keep your daughter quiet. Every one of us has been wrong, everybody has stumbled. The most important thing is self-perception and modification. I hope this will be a lesson that you will remember forever, so that whatever you do, whether large or small, you need to be careful, careful not to be subjective. Because just a minute of subjective, the consequences will not be unexpected.

I listened attentively as I swallowed her words. That was the first time I realized that just because a minute of negligence, your subjectivity affects so many people. It has happened for a long time but it will be a lesson for me: in anything that is not subjective, careful, meticulous, effort, try not stop.

I feel like I’ve got two identities: being deaf and being black. It’s a double struggle to fit in and I’ve had to work 10 times harder than my classmates. [A recent report from the National Deaf Children’s Society, which analysed government data, found deaf pupils in England are struggling “at every stage of their education”.]

I was born hearing but became ill with meningitis when I was a baby. After that I became deaf. I grew up in Barking and Dagenham, in East London, with my mum, who works as a caterer and a cleaner at two different colleges. I was bullied in primary school – people would say “ew, you’ve got hearing aids in” – and felt like I didn’t belong. By the time I got to secondary school I had accepted my identity, but that didn’t mean everyone accepted me. I communicate using sign language, so people would stare and I knew I stood out.

I worked hard in secondary school, but was still told I wouldn’t be able to go to college or university. I was told deaf people didn’t go on to higher education. “Which deaf people do you know who have gone to university?” someone asked. The truth was I didn’t know any, because I had no role models.

This made me frustrated, and my frustration came out as anger. The main way I dealt with my anger, though, was positive. I channelled it into a determination to show people I could achieve, despite my disability.

I got my GCSEs and applied to do BTec business level three at Barking and Dagenham College. I spent two years at the college and the vocational course was fantastic. I met so many different professional people, I had a mentor and people supported me. I’m now able to study a degree in politics and economics and have completed my first year at Lancaster University.

However, the discrimination hasn’t gone away. The first person I met when I got to university immediately made a racist joke. He said: “I’ve got loads of black friends, don’t worry.”

I also get combined prejudice for being both black and deaf. I chose a white hearing aid because I like it and I’m proud of who I am, so I don’t mind if people notice it. But recently a deaf woman pointed at me and said: “Look at him, his hearing aid doesn’t match his skin colour!”

It’s difficult to keep calm all the time. I try to stay positive, but quite often I feel like I want to give up. When that happens, I tell myself I’ve got to look to what I can achieve next. That keeps me going.

I made a few friends at uni last year, but so far I feel I’ve missed out on the full university experience. Next year, I’m transferring to Leeds; it’s a bigger city and I think there will be more deaf students, so I’m hoping I’ll feel less isolated.

I want to talk about my experiences and show young deaf students that it’s possible to go to college or university and achieve things. I got a 2:1 at the end of my first year of university, which I’m proud of, and last year I was named Leidos Career Ready UK Student of the Year.

I want to tell other deaf black students to keep working hard. Have the right attitude and arrive on time, because you can achieve anything if you stay strong. To young people with disabilities, I say keep your identity and be proud of it. Society will always try and push you aside; show them you’re not going to disappear.

Dear Tim

I feel so exited each time I write to you and tell you everything in my daily life. In this letter, I want to share my birthday party which was held last weedkend.

I organized a big party in my flower garden. There were about 30 people coming to my party including my friends, my relatives and some neighbors. The garden was beautifully decorated with balloons and ribbons.

During the party, we play some fun games everybody looked very funny and cute. We danced to the music and sang excitedly together. At the end of the party, all of us took lots of photos to keep those sweet moments. That was the most wonderful party I’ve had in my life.

I hope that next birthday you and I could enjoy my party together

Write to me soon!

Best wishes

Dear Sam

We finally moved house last month and now life has changed.

Everything is a difference. My house is in Lam Dong province. It is a two-story building with 4 bedrooms. There is a small garden with rose, a variety of vegetables, like cabbage, chili, ginger, garlic, and some plants, like an orange tree, an apple tree.

It is a quiet and peaceful countriside. I can hear the birds singing and feel the fresh air, which I couldn’t have when I lived in my old flat. However, there are not markets, shops and school nearby.

I haven’t met many neighbors here but the people living next door are friendly and helpful.

We are happy here, please come around and see us someday. You are always welcome.

Love!

That photograph made me remember my old teacher who taught us high school. She is slim with along hair and blue eyes. Do you remember her? Our enghlish teacher, her name is Sara. I can’t forget that days when she played game with us in each class and we sang ‘ Anilmal song’ together. I also remember that She was very sad when our class didn’t do homework and we felt so guilty with her. Then we studied Enghlish hard to fix our mistakes and she was so happy. But now she doesn’t still teach Enghlish in Viet Nam. Ha - our classmates said she came back England with her husband. I hope she would come to Viet nam, I will meet her because I miss her so much. What about you? What do you think about her? Have you ever had the old teacher who made you unforgettable

I upload photos and update my Facebook profile all the time. But recently I’ve started to feel worried if I am offline for more than a few hours. And then last week I forgot to meet a real friend because I was online! I’ve realised I could have a problem. So I’ve decided to give it up for a while.

The fourth night I wasn’t quite so bad. I actually concentrated on my homework better and I had more time to watch my TV programmes. And I spoke to my friends during the day at school. At the end of the first week, I reactivated my account, I think Facebook is fun and it’s useful for posting messages to friends and sharing photos.
