THE HISTORY OF COMPUTER GAMESbrought to you by George’s Games

Early ideas

The origin of video games lies in early missile detente systems in the late 1940s. These were later adapted intosimple games during the 1950s. Eventually video games diverged into different types: mainframe, arcade, console, personal computer and later handheld games.

Mainframe Games

Game development blossomed in the early 70s, using huge University mainframe computers. There is littlerecord of these games, as they were not marketed, or available to the public. The students creating them oftendid so illicitly by making questionable use of very expensive computing resources, and so kept their work secret.

Rise of the Video Arcade

The arcade game industry entered its Golden Age in 1978 with the release o' Space Invaders by Taito, a successthat inspired dozens of manufacturers to enter the market.Colour arcade games became more popular in 1979 and 1980 with the arrival of titles such as PacMan. TheGolden Age of video arcade games reached its zenith in the 1980s.

The Game Console and Home Computer

With improvements to consoles in the 90s, home video games began to approach the level of graphics seen inarcade games. An increasing number of players would wait for popular arcade games to be adapted for consolesrather than going out. Home computers also became cheaper, more widespread and gained gaming abilities.

Today and Tomorrow

Today’s technology is changing rapidly. The newest developments include hand-held and mobile phonegaming, huge online games with many players, alternate reality games such as Second Life, and games, such asFarmville that are linked to social networks. For more information, the latest games products, and to play a selection of authentic vintage arcade games, visitus at George’s Games conveniently located at the Central Entertainment Complex on Derby Road.OPENING HOURS: 4-10pm, Sunday-Thursday 12 noon – 12 midnight, Friday and Saturday

The missing ring

Robert's mother was very sad. On Saturday, she lost her favourite ring when the family went for a walk in the forest. Robert's dad went back on Sunday morning to try to find it. He looked everywhere but he couldn't see it because the ring was very little and it was dark under the big trees.

"I'll buy you another sliver ring just like the one you lost," he said to Robert's mum that evening. "But I loved that one!" she answered.

On Monday morning she was still unhappy so Robert said, "Let's go for another walk after school. Perhaps we will finnd your fing if we look again very carefully." "Good idea, Robert," she answered.

So later that afternoon, they drove back to the forest. They enjoyed walking there. They kicked the leaves with their feet and listened to all the birds in the trees.

Suddenly a lovely red, spotted butterfly flew out of the trees and down on to the ground in front of them. "Look at that!" Robert said. When Robert's mother looked through her camera to take a picture, she saw something on the small leaf which was under the butterfly. It was her missing ring!

"I can't believe it!" she said. "A butterfly has shown us where I dropped my ring!" It was a very good end to the day.

Early in the morning we left. We rode the bus trip lasted long, too long. We stopped every 2 hours we were very tired of traveling. After 9 h journey we arrived in Krakow. We visited the Wawel Castle and in the evening we were at the Aquapark. It was cool. Only about 23 reached the buried. The next day morning we went into the mountains. The weather was not spurned. It was raining it was cold. We were on Goblins and droplets. The next day, immediately after breakfast. The weather was great, warm sun shone. We were in the cave where he climbed on the chains. It was great. On the last day from 6 to pack and clean room. At 8 we went to Inowrocław. Along the way we visited Wadowice and Czestochowa. Trip was great, but I liked the most in the Valley.
