I think that the best leisure activity for teenagers is playing sports. Firstly, they can find friends who have the same interests. Secondly, physical activities are a good way to relieve stress and reduce depression. Moreover, sports can help develop teamwork and leadership skills that may be very necessary for their future jobs. Their parents should give advice on choosing a suitable leisure activity; however, teenagers themselves will make the final decision.

I like living in the countryside because of some reasons. Environmentally speaking, it is a peaceful place. The air is fresh. The space is quiet. We can enjoy healthy natural conditions without worrying much about environmental pollution.

As for social security, the countryside is a safer place than a city. While urban security situation is always complicated with all kinds of crimes, rural areas are much more secure because most of countrymen are friendly and ready to help one another.

Moreover, rural life is also easier that in cities. People in cities are easy to get stressed because of pollution, job pressures, competitions, etc ... On the contrary, those bad things are very rare in the countryside. To sum up, except income matters, the countryside is a better residence than cities.

1. Emma

Girl: Hi. Can I ask you? What's your favorite place in town?

Emma: Erm…The shopping center I think.

Girl: The shopping center? Why is that?

Emma: I don't know why. My friends go there.

Girl: And you prefer the place and it’s not the pank near your house, for example?

Emma: Yes, the park is dirty. There is cleaner and I like the shops.

Girl: Okay, thanks.

2. Lucas

Lucas: My favorite place? I don't know, but maybe the bike shop.

Girl: The bike shop? Really? There are lots of people with bikes in this town. When you go to school do you prefer the bus or your bike?

Lucas: My bike. The bus is more expensive and it's slower.

Girl: But bikes are more dangerous.

Lucas: Uhmm… Yes, they are.

3. Dwayne

Girl: What's your favorite place in town?

Dwayne: Oh… I’m…I'm not sure. Well, I'm not from here. I'm from New York, in the USA.

Girl: All right.

Dwayne: Oxford is a nice city though, nicer than New York, I think.

Girl: Really? Why?

Dwayne: New York is more modern I like older places.

4. Chloe and Harriet

Girl: Hi, there. A quick question: what's your favorite place in town?

Chloe: Gino's pizza restaurant

Girl: Really?

Chloe: Yes, I think Gino's is great. But my friend Harriet prefers Luigi's.

Harriet: Yeah. Luigi's pizza is bigger.

Girl: Maybe, but they’re better in Gino's and the people are friendly there.

Harriet: Okay.

Chloe: Yes, that's true.

1. Emma

1. What time of year do most teenagers do work experience in the UK?

2. Why does the writer think work experience is useful?

3. How long are placements?

4. What does Paul want to do when he finishes school?

The world of work experience

Forget relaxing with friends. The end of the school year is a time for working for most fourteen- and fifteen-year-olds in the UK. Around half a million teenagers in the UK do work experience every summer. This is a useful way to find out which jobs you might enjoy in the future. It is also important when you apply for university, or get a job in the future. For example, if you want to study to be an engineer, you could do work experience with a car manufacturer. Other popular work experience placements are in teaching, marketing, media, and finance. Placements usually last two weeks. Some teenagers have no idea what job they want to do. In this case, they need to think about their passions. For example, if you are interested in music, you could work in a music shop. Alternatively, if you love animals, you could work on a farm.

My work experience: Hi, I’m Paul, and I’ve just done two weeks’ work experience on a farm near where I live. It was brilliant. I enjoyed giving the animals their food in the morning. I also made sure the animals had exercise and I kept everything clean. At night, I helped to put the animals inside. It was hard work but I loved it. I hope the farm will give me a job when I finish school.
