Read the passage carefully and choose the correct answer.

Even where there is an efficient 'door – to – door' delivery system, there are additional advantages in using Post Office (PO) boxes. There are certain conveniences for using PO boxes.

PO boxes allow mail to be pick up when sorted, rather than when it is delivered to the physical address, which will be hours later.

A mail user who regularly receives large parcels or items that must be signed for may find it convenient to pick up the rest of the mail at the same time.

A mail user who moves frequently can keep a mailing address.

A mail user may desire a more famous or prestigious address. For example, in Washington, D.C., many large P.O. box facilities are located near or even outside city limits.

A business receiving large volumes of mail may maintain separate post office boxes for separate departments, such as one for sales, one for customer service, to reduce the need to sort internally.

PO boxes are more secure than many home mailboxes, preventing mail theft and identity theft.

If you live on a boat, PO boxes can serve as your address, but are not necessary.

36. A PO box is more convenient for a mail user who frequently moves.

a. True b. False c. No information

37. If you use a PO box, you can get your mail earlier than you use a door-to-door delivery system.

a. True b. False c. No information

38. Home mailboxes are surely opened by mail thieves.

a. True b. False c. No information

39. Each business can rent only one PO box.

a. True b. False c. No information

40. If you live on a boat, the post office does not allow you to rent a PO box.

REMEMBER?

Your mind's ability to bring back experiences you have had is your memory. There are two kinds of remembering, recall and recognition. For instance, you may not be able to recall the poem you read yesterday in class, but if you see it again, you will know it instantly because you recognize it.

Some few people have 'total recall,' often spoken of as photographic memory. A person with total recall can recite a whole page of a book he has read only once, or playa musical composition after hearing it once. This is very unusual, however, and most people have difficulty in remembering even names they heard the day before. This is not because most people lack the ability to remember, but because they had not paid much attention to what they heard. They felt no personal reasons to remember. Having a personal reason for remembering is one of the most important factors in a good memory.

When you have a strong reason for remembering, concentrate as you read or listen, and try to connect the new information to things you I already know. A detail is easy to remember when it fits into a whole that makes sense. If you understand the entire history lesson before you try to remember any particular dates, your memory may surprise you.

41. While not directly stated, it may be inferred from the article that ________.

a. details are more easily remembered by fitting them into a whole

b. recall and recognition are the same thing

c. wanting to do a thing is very important to being able to do it

42. This article as a whole tells us about ________.

a. people who can remember whole pages

b. people who can't remember names

c. our memory and how to improve it

43. A person with photographic memory is ________.

a. can only remember things if he looks at a photograph

b. can remember every detail of what he sees or hears

c. can be found in mental hospitals

d. brings his camera everywhere he goes

44. One way to improve our memory is ________

a. to ask other people to repeat something you want to remember.

b. to have a camera with you all the time

c. to concentrate on what you hear or read

d. to learn everything by heart

45. Which sentence is not true?

VIII. Read the passage carefully and choose the correct answers.
Gift giving is important in Vietnam because of the significance of interpersonal relationships in Vietnamese culture. First and foremost, do not encourage corruption. There is a clear cut between gift-giving and bribery.
Nevertheless, it is common in Vietnam for exchanging small gifts on certain occasions such as anniversaries, Tet holidays... to express your respect, love, appreciation, or gratitude. Gift-giving customs depend on the context. If it is a private gift for one Vietnamese partner you should give the gift at a private occasion. If you have a gift for the whole office or company, you should give it after the business meeting with the whole office’s employee. Do not wrap a gift in black paper because this color is unlucky and associated with funerals in Vietnam. Gifts that symbolize cutting such as scissors, knives, and other sharp objects should be avoided because they mean the cutting of the relationship.
Vietnamese may or may not open these gifts when they are received; leave the option to them. You will also receive gifts and should defer to your host as to whether you should open them when received or not. Regardless of when it is opened or what it is, profuse thanks are always appropriate.
45. According to the passage, why is gift-giving important in Vietnam?

Read the text carefully, then answer the questions. Many people enjoy living in a big city because they think life is more exciting there. However, I come from a small village and in my view, there are lots of benefits. The main reason I prefer village life is because it’s very quiet, so I always feel calm when I’m here. Another reason is that the air is so fresh and clean. We have more green spaces and bigger gardens, too. In addition, Ithink the people here are friendlier. Personally, I’m interested in wildlife photography, so the countryside is perfect for me.The only downside is transport. I have an early start for a long Journey to school in Faro and the school bus is always stopping to pick up more people. Also, it’s boring sometimes, but I enjoy chatting to my friends. Fortunately, I’m learning to ride a moped. On balance, I disagree that city life is better, as I think my village lifestyle is healthier and more relaxing. In spite of that, some of my friends couldn’t cope with life in the country, so it comes down to personal opinion.1. In spite of that, some of my friends couldn’t cope with life in the country, so it comes down to personal opinion.

The ruined temples of Angkor are perhaps one of the mast impressive Seven Wonders of the World. Located in modern day Cambodia near Lake TonIe Sap, the largest freshwater lake in Asia, Angkor was the seat of power for the Khmer Empire from the ninth to the fifteenth century. The ruins of Angkor are documented as same .of the mast impressive ones in the world, rivaling the pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Why this mighty civilization died out is a question that archeologists are now only beginning to ponder. The answer, it turns out, may be linked with the availability of fresh water.

One possible explanation far the downfall of the Khmer Empire has to do with the inhabitants' irrigation system. The temple and palaces of Angkor were constructed around a series of artificial reservoirs and canals which were annually flooded to capacity by the Mekong River. Once filled, they were used to irrigate the surrounding rice patties and farmland during the course of the year. Farmers were completely dependent upon the water for their crucial rice crop. Without consistent irrigation, the farmers would have been unable to maintain functional crop production.

Scientists speculate that toward the end of the Khmer Empire the hydraulic systems of the reservoirs and canals broke down. The construction of hundreds of sandstone temples and palaces required an enormous amount of physical labor. In addition, as the capital of the Khmer Empire, Angkor contained upwards of one hundred thousand people who resided in and around Angkor. In order to feed so many people, the local farmers were driven to grow food quicker and more efficiently. After centuries of continual use, the irrigation system was pushed beyond its capacity. Soil erosion, nutrient depletion, and the loss of water led to decrease in the food supply. With less food available, the people of Angkor slowly began to migrate to other parts of Cambodia thus leaving the marvelous city of Angkor to be swallowed by the jungle. Therefore, it is speculated that the Khmer Empire may have fallen victim to its own decrepit infrastructure.

study found that many users spend up to 40 hours a week on the Intemet. Some of the addicts are
teenagers who are already hooked on computer games and who find it very difficult to resist the
