Ngày xưa, Khu Phố Cổ, một hệ thống các con phố, ngõ hẻm và những ngôi nhà nhỏ hẹp, là (1) nơi sinh sống của một số phường hội như đúc đồng, rèn, làm đồ trang sức, chạm khắc gỗ, buôn bán lụa và quần áo. Những ngôi nhà nhỏ kiểu cách đẹp mắt được xây dựng cùng với (2) văn hóa địa phương độc đáo. Đường phố trong khu phố cổ vẫn còn có tên mô tả hàng hóa hoặc nghề thủ công ban đầu của họ, ví dụ: Hàng Bạc hoặc "Phố Bạc". Tầng trệt
cửa hàng của (3) ngôi nhà ở đây hiện bán đồ thủ công, mỹ nghệ và thực phẩm. Nhưng nơi đây cũng có một số chùa, đền, (4) di tích lịch sử, và lễ hội dành riêng cho những người sáng lập một số đồ thủ công địa phương. Bây giờ, nhiều phố phường, như phố Hàng Quạt, không còn có nhiều người hâm mộ nữa, nhưng chúng được nhớ đến như phố nghề Kiến trúc và lối sống của người dân địa phương phản ánh (5) đặc điểm tiêu biểu của truyền thống phố phường Hà Nội.
