Although there are many celebrations throughout the year, Tet or the Lunar New Year holiday is the most important celebration for Vietnamese people. Tet is festival which ocurs in late January or early February. Tet marks the begining of spring and, for agrarian people, the start of a new year. It is a time for families to clean and decorate their home, and enjoy speacial food such as sticky rice cakes. Family members who live apart try to be together at Tet. Before Tet, streets are decorated with coloured lights and red banners. Shops are full of goods. People are busy buying gifts, cleaning and decorating their houses and cooking traditional foods. On the days of Tet everyone tries to be nice and polite to each other. People visit other family members or friend. Children receive their '' luky money'' inside red invelops.Many people go to pagoda to pray for a happy year for themselves and their family. Tet is really a time of fun and festivals throughout the country.
