Opinion Essay
In recent years, many young Vietnamese people have embraced festivals like Christmas and Halloween with great excitement. Some see this as harmless fun, while others worry that such trends may weaken traditional culture. In my opinion, celebrating these foreign festivals is not necessarily harmful, but balance is the key.
On the positive side, joining global celebrations makes young people feel more connected to the world. For instance, Halloween parties allow students to be creative with costumes, while Christmas creates a warm atmosphere of giving and sharing. These experiences bring joy and even improve cultural understanding, which is useful in a globalized society.
However, blindly following foreign customs without appreciating our own traditions can be dangerous. If young people only focus on Halloween but forget Mid-Autumn Festival, or love Santa Claus more than Ông Công Ông Táo, our cultural identity may fade.
Therefore, I believe Vietnamese youth should enjoy foreign festivals, but also proudly preserve and modernize local ones. Only by combining both can we celebrate diversity while keeping our own cultural soul alive.
