This value may come from its stunning natural beauty, unique geological formations, or exceptional biodiversity. Once a site is designated, it gets legal protection and careful management to help preserve it for the future.
3. These sites often attract many tourists, which can have good and bad effects. While tourism can bring money to local communities, it can also damage the sites if not appropriately handled. UNESCO is aware of this challenge and promotes ecotourism at these locations. The Galapagos Islands, known for their unique wildlife, have received help from UNESCO to manage visitors, create eco-friendly facilities, and educate people about protecting the environment.
