Ta có phương trình phản ứng sau khi đốt sắt trong không khí:

3Fe + 2O₂ -> Fe₃O₄

n_Fe= 16,8/56 = 0,3 mol

theo phương trình trên ta thấy: n O₂= 2/3 n_Fe= 0,2 mol

-> Thể tích Oxy cần dùng= 0,2 x22,4 =4,48 lít

Vì không khí chứa 20% O₂ nên ta suy ra lượng không khí cần dùng là: V_kk= V O₂/ 20%=22,4 lít
