Sự hình thành:

Người sinh sống lâu đời: người Lào Thơng - chủ nhân của các nền văn hóa đồ đá, đồ đồng có từ hàng nghìn năm trước và là người đã sáng tạo ra những chum đá khổng lồ còn nằm rải rác hiện nay trên các cánh đồng Chum ( Xiêng Khoảng)

Mãi đến thế kỷ XIII mới có một nhóm người Thái di cư đến đây gọi là người Lào Lùm.

Năm 1353: Phà Ngừm thống nhất đất nước, lên ngôi vua ở Xiềng đông – Xiềng thông.

Đây là kết quả của một quá trình đấu tranh quyết liệt để chống lại tình trạng phân chia đất nước và sự lệ thuộc ngoại bang.

Vương quốc Lan Xang bước vào giai đoạn thịnh trị nhất vào các thế kỷ XV - XVII. Các vua Lan Xang chia đất nước thành các mường, đặt quan cai tri, xây dựng quân đội do nhà vua chỉ huy. Trong quan hệ đối ngoại, Lan Xang luôn chú ý giữ quan hệ hòa hiếu với các nước láng giềng, đồng thời kiên quyết đấu tranh chống lại sự xâm lược của các nước.

Cư dân của các mường chủ yếu trồng lúa nương, săn bắn và làm một số nghề thủ công. Thời kỳ thịnh trị nhất đã được các thương nhân châu Âu miêu tả là một cuộc sống thanh bình và trù phú với nhiều sản vật quý hiếm như thổ cẩm, cánh kiến, ngà voi...

Sang thế kỷ XVIII: suy yếu dần vì các cuộc tranh giành ngôi báu trong hoàng tộc. 

Năm 1893: Lào trở thành thuộc địa của Pháp.

Sự phát triển:

Ngày nay, Lào một quốc gia đang có những phát triển mới về kinh tế.

Năm 2011:  mở một sở giao dịch chứng khoán  - có vai trò như một nhà cung cấp thủy điện cho các quốc gia láng giềng như Việt Nam, Trung Quốc, Thái Lan.

Thu nhập bình quân đầu người còn thấp, phải phụ thuộc nặng nề vào viện trợ nước ngoài và vay ưu đãi để lấy nguồn đầu tư cho phát triển đất nước.

Nông nghiệp chủ yếu là trồng lúa, đang chi phối nền kinh tế. Sản phẩm nông nghiệp bao gồm khoai tây, rau xanh, cà phê, đường mía, thuốc lá, ngô, vải, chè, lạc, gạo; trâu, lợn, gia súc, gia cầm.

Công nghiệp được đầu tư phát triển nhưng chưa mang tính sâu rộng.

Du lịch là ngành kinh tế phất triển nhanh nhất và đóng vai trò quan trọng trong nền kinh tế Lào.

Thương mại: chủ yếu xuất khẩu các mặt hàng nông nghiệp, khoáng sản và điện và nhập khẩu máy móc, linh kiện, phương tiện giao thông, nhiên liệu.

Giao thông vận tải: 

+Các tuyến đường bộ các huyện xã hiện đang được định hình và nâng cấp, các đô thi có mạng lưới giao thông đa dạng và phát triển hơn cả.

+Hiện các nguồn vốn nước ngoài đang được sử dụng phần lớn cho cơ sở hạ tầng giao thông vận tải, tiêu biểu là các tuyến đường sắt, đường bộ xuyên quốc gia.

Many people still believe that natural resources will never be used up. Actually, the world’s energy resources are limited. Nobody knows exactly how much fuel is left. However, we also should use them economically and try to find out alternative sources of power. According to Professor Marvin Burnharm of the New England Institude of Technology, we have to start conserving coal, oil and gas before it is too late; and nuclear power is the only alternative.

However, many people do not approve of using nuclear power because it’s very dangerous. What would happen if there was a serious nuclear accident? Radioactivity causes cancer and may badly affect the future generations.

The most effective thing is that we should use natural resources as economical as possible.
