1. In the early 17th century, most of the southern region of Vietnam was nearly uninhabited and in the position of HCM City, there was a small village formed with a few residents. However, thanks to its advantage in location, the town grew both economically and politically. By the 19th century, this had become a cultural hub of the South as well as an important trading center of the country.

2. You might not know that there was a time Saigon was referred to as the Pearl of the Far East. Sadly, having been through various occurrences and two disastrous wars has stunted the city's development. Only after the political instabilities had settled, Saigon recovered miraculously and maintained its leading position in terms of both the economics and culture. Officially named as HCM City, Saigon today has 22 districts in total and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists annually.

Voice assistants have become more popular in recent years, and with improvements in artificial intelligence (AI), they will keep growing. These devices can listen to commands, answer questions, and control smart devices at home, making (1) _______. As technology continues to develop, they will become even better in the future.

Currently, voice assistants can't remember past conversations or (2) _______ complex requests. Dr. Yarosh believes that with the help of generative AI, they will become more (3) _______ and able to understand context across multiple exchanges.

Amazon is already adding generative AI to its Echo devices, which will allow them (4) _______ non-verbal cues in addition to speech. (5) _______ update comes from Google, which is enhancing their Assistant with Bard for more personalized experiences. 1. I was in Israel for a business trip and decided to explore a little by taking weekend trips. One day, I went to the bank to get some cash and thought I'd use the restroom before continuing my journey. I hung my purse on the hook, locked the door, used the bathroom, and washed my hands. But when I tried to open the door, it wouldn't budge! I tried turning the lock in different directions, but it didn't work. I didn't know much Hebrew, so I knocked on the door and said “Slicha” (which means “excuse me”). A woman came and told me to turn the lock in both directions. Then a man came and gave the same advice. I told him I had already done that, but he said, “No, the other lock.” I realised that the hook I thought was for my purse was actually a second lock. Embarrassed, I quickly left the bank.

2. From this, I learned two things: It's important to know some basic phrases of the local language, and staying calm can help avoid embarrassing situations.

1. After working in global health for 20 years, I suddenly found myself without a job. On January 27, my USAID-funded job ended due to changes in U.S. foreign policy. This marked the end of my career leading large health programs, and it felt like everything came to a sudden halt. Although I tried to stay calm, it was clear that this wasn't going to be a quick fix.

2. I updated my resume, applied for jobs, and reached out to my network. Despite my efforts, I realized this would be a long process. As the job market slowed down, I started to feel discouraged. I kept getting no responses, even from positions that required less experience than mine. I understood that I needed to pace myself to avoid burnout, but doing so was much harder than I thought.

3. Over the past few months, I've been learning a lot. It's been humbling and difficult. I'm learning that discomfort can be a tool for growth and self-reflection. It's also made me realize how much of my identity was tied to my job, and how hard it is to be labeled as "unemployed." But despite the uncertainty, I'm choosing to see this chapter as a part of my journey and I'm proud of what I'm learning from it.
