8 Ways You Can Help Your Community Amid the COVID-19 Crisis
Even in the era of social distancing, we can still connect with our neighbors and offer support to those in need.

As cities and towns ask their residents to stay home to slow the virus’ spread, many of us are grappling with how to be there for each other when we can’t be near each other. Our work at Earthjustice continues without interruption. Staff members nationwide are forging ahead in a remote capacity and sharing ideas to safely connect with our neighbors and offer assistance to those most affected by the pandemic. Here are eight ways we are supporting our communities that we hope will be helpful for your own local efforts:
GIVE FIVE, WAVE FIVE“One thing I have been doing is making a $5 donation at the grocery check-out every time I shop now. Food banks are struggling, and even with my husband closing his acupuncture clinic we can afford $5. It's small, but it feels good. Another micro-action I have been doing is waving and saying hi to neighbors, through the window if they walk by or across the street if we are outside shoveling snow or taking out trash at the same time. We have a number of older neighbors too, and isolation is hard. Small acts of kindness go a long way.” – Karilyn
TRANSIT(ION) TO DONATION“Since I’m not using public transit money for a while I’m cancelling my transit order and allocating the funds from that to donations to arts orgs, mutual aid organizing groups, and restaurant gift certificates. It feels good.” – Emily J.
CONVERSATIONS WITH DOGS“On my walks, it has seemed like many folks are avoiding conversation and eye contact (maybe it’s just me), but I’ve been going out of my way to say hello and just try to connect... it seems important to make sure we don’t forget how to be humans while also keeping distance. I’ve also waved at dogs. They appear to be into it.” – Ali W.
WHOLESALE ORDER UP!“I just ordered a 25-pound box of produce from a family-run produce wholesaler here in LA. All their customers are restaurants who cancelled all their orders. So they’re selling direct and will even deliver to keep their staff employed. They expressed a lot of gratitude for the support so their business can remain throughout this crisis. Not sure how widespread this is but it might be worthwhile to look out for this in your neighborhood.” – Linda
MASKS FOR ALL“I’m doing an N95 and surgical mask drive for some doctor friends at Kaiser who are starting to ration them. If you have any boxes/packages to spare (maybe some unused from our last wildfire season, or some you bought for a home project you never got around to), I can — carefully — pick them up from your porch and do a delivery. So far we’ve got about 20 unopened N95 masks for delivery.” – Zoe
DINE INSIDE“It’s a tiny thing, but we’ve been ordering food from local restaurants (even though we have a stocked pantry!) to try to support them. Making sure we can do either curbside pickup or contactless delivery (to protect them and us from potential transmission) and tipping a ton.” – Nick R.

A community is an entity composed of many individuals who share the same common interests and work together to form a large group, with the same goal. On fandom, the goal is to build a wiki on the favorite subject they share, whether it's movies such as Wiki Harry Potter, the big world view like Wiki Disney or a video game. like Wiki Final Fantasy, to beverages like Wiki Cocktails. Communities work together to build information, solve problems and create an open and active atmosphere for people to share their passion on the wiki.
The community makes the decision
The community should discuss issues and make decisions together rather than just by a group of administrators or administrators.
Communities should keep their minds open that the collective has the power to decide on a wiki. Administrators are only those who have the duty and responsibility to guide and support the community but not the 'rulers'. That is the ideal pattern. Maybe this is not appropriate in situations where you only have a very small group of members but that should be the goal you should aim for. That means that administrators do not work under their own rules and do not make unilateral decisions but rather that they use their tools to do the will of the community.
Similar to democracy when the community chooses to vote rather than just one or a group of individuals, it establishes the important relationship between the administrators and the community in which the community is where to make the final decision. Administrators have additional tools that ordinary members do not have, but that does not mean that administrators are classified as 'special'.
Community building
Building a community is not easy but the cost to get is worth it. We've talked about how the community works together and makes decisions, but there's more to it. Working towards the goals of the team, you always need to be ready to compromise. Whether it's a wiki for a TV show or a video game with a huge fan base, or just about personal interests, there are always people who have very strong, Diversity. That is great and completely normal. Various ideas and perspectives are common and communicate with each other to create even more wonderful ideas that express the multidimension in different perspectives rather than just a single point of view. But things start to deteriorate when you are not willing to compromise, only to argue and shout at each other.
This leads to another important point, which you want to avoid when building a community: drama. Drama can be all kinds of social relations issues such as personal disputes, names, debates or anything involving conflicts between members. This can happen and sometimes inevitable, but that does not mean you should be passive to such things. The best way to clearly navigate dramatic events is to focus on content development and towards the goal of the community. Who says what, who thinks what, who assigns the characters, who likes movies more than anyone and any other types of debate can cause conflicts, all should be avoided if people Concerned about not respecting the opinions of others. You do not have to say that conversations can never happen, but make sure your primary focus is building content by editing articles on the topic that is the best way to avoid things. case drama
Finally, the advice given to the Fandom community is to be sociable, to respect the opinions of others, and especially to keep good faith. What does that mean? For simplicity, let's assume that everyone in the community is working together towards the common good. Most people are here to support, not to cause trouble. Many will make mistakes, especially when they are new, so do not treat potential members as if they are troublemakers.
Do not build walls, but build bridges that connect new members in a fandom filled with them.
And that leads to the last thing: Be open and welcome new contributors. People come and go, and dedicated members can create so many things. Without a new member, the wiki can not exist. Remember to give them enough time to know how the wiki works, and always welcome, help and respect them.
If you keep these things in your mind, you will create a great community working together towards a common goal.

, you must make sure that your wiki is found by many. You will want to identify where you can attract potential members and tell them about your project there. The founder and the first members will have a lot of responsibilities and burdens, but that's just the beginning. As more newcomers begin to participate in the community, more and more people will help spread the word and make the wiki grow.
Before you start promoting your wiki, make sure that there is something to promote. A newly created wiki will never be enough. You need to start creating the content of the wiki, and it is equally important to create a basic structure, tutorial help pages, and information exchange forums that are created in tandem with the content editor. as much as possible. The better the quality and quantity of your content, the better your wiki will be on the search engines.
Once that's all done, the way to promote your wiki is limitless. Keep in mind that there is not always a single best option for developing a wiki, so you should choose whatever way you feel suits your wiki's content theme and development path. the community you target. Stop to help when and where you're needed. It's a simple way to make your community better and help to create the kind of vibe that makes people feel safe and happy. If you see someone in need of assistance, come to their aid instead of averting your eyes. Do for others what you'd want them to do for you if you were in their situation.
- If you see a mother struggling to get her stroller down a set of stairs, offer to help her carry it.
- If you notice someone looking lost, help them get where they're trying to go.
- Figure out how you can help the people who ask for money in the street, instead of passing them without looking them in the eyes.

- Offer to shovel your neighbours' backyard or rake leaves for someone across the street. Babysit community kids, or watch their pets.

Support your local economy. Healthy communities have healthy local economies. People work together to help each other make a living and thrive. You can help improve the health of your local economy in many different ways, from changing your shopping habits to starting a business of your own. Consider these different ways to help:[1]
- Buy your food from local vendors. Try to get most of your produce from the farmer's market, where members of your community go to sell food they've worked hard to grow.
- Shop at local businesses whenever you can. For example, if you have the choice to buy a new pair of jeans at a chain discount store or a small business owned by a member of your community, choose the latter. Change your mindset from buying the cheapest available product to leveraging your purchases to provide the most community good. Knowing that your money will go toward boosting your local economy and building a strong, vibrant community is worth the extra effort and expense. Help others to see the light and help them come aboard to help you boost the local community's financial health.
- Consider starting your own business. You can serve your community by offering a great product and possibly even hiring employees.

Recycle and compost. Many communities are experiencing problems with landfills that are getting too full. Producing too much trash pollutes the environment, and that's not good for your community's long-term health. You can do your part to help improve the situation by recycling and composting as much of your waste as possible.
- If you want to go above and beyond, you could also spread awareness about how to recycle, or start a recycling program at your school or place of work.
- Composting is useful in more ways than one. It allows you to dispose of your food waste without putting it in the trash, and as a result you end up with rich soil you can use in your garden. Once you learn how to do it, show others how easy it can be.

- Use public transportation. Even if your area doesn't have a great subway or elevated rail system, you probably have bus lines nearby.
