- Động từ tường thuật “asked” chia thì quá khứ nên lời nói trong ngoặc kép phải áp dụng quy tắc lùi thì:

+ you => he, my => his

+ Thì hiện tại hoàn thành: S + have/has + Ved/V3 => Thì quá khứ hoàn thành: S + had + Ved/V3

- Dùng "if/ whether" khi chuyển sang câu tường thuật với dạng câu hỏi "Yes-No question"

=> Thomas asked Jean if he had seen his gloves.
