Take it easy:
2 X 2 = 42 with 4 = 2 X 2 and 2 = 2 X 2 - 2
2 X 4 = 86 with 8 = 2 X 4 and 6 = 2 X 4 - 2
6 X 3 = 1812 with 18 = 6 X 3 and 12 = 6 X 3 - 6
...
So 7 X 2 = 147 with 14 = 7 X 2 and 7 = 7 X 2 - 7

Nếu như theo những gì ta được học trong trường thì kết quả sẽ là 9, theo nguyên tắc là phép tính trong ngoặc thực hiện trước 2 + 1 = 3. Đây là cách tính phổ biến trên toàn thế giới và là kết quả chính xác nhất “ngày nay".
Vì sao lại là “ngày nay"? Tranh cãi xảy ra vì một số người sử dụng một quy tắc tính cổ, phổ biến từ trước 1917, đó là khi sử dụng phép tính chia, thì được hiểu rằng số chia là toàn bộ các thành phần nằm bên phải kí hiệu. Ví dụ: x : 2y nếu tính theo quy tắc này sẽ là x : (2y). Như vậy, kết quả của phép tính trên sẽ là 1.
