Tet is the biggest traditional festival in Vietnam. This is an opportunity for people to enjoy a happy and relaxing period of time with their family and friends. There are some differences between Tet in the North and the South of Vietnam. In the North, the traditional food of Tet is Chung cake - a rectangular sky rice cake with meat, which is wrapped in phrynium. People usually buy the cakes with some cherry blossom branches as a symbol of Tet to decorate their houses. In the South, people consider apricots and Tet cakes are the symbols of Tet. Tet cake is also made from sky rice, and the inside can be sweet beans, bananas, or even meat. On New Year’s Eve, most families gather together to have a warm dinner and a traditional ritual in order to commemorate our ancestors. On the first day of New Year, youngsters will give their best greetings to oldsters and receive lucky money. In the rest time of Tet, people can go to pagodas to pray for good things, peace, and health. Lunar New Year Festival often falls between late January and early February; it is among the most important holidays in Vietnam. Officially, the festival includes the 1st, 2nd and 3rd day in Lunar Calendar; however, Vietnamese people often spend about nearly a month to celebrate this special event.
Tet Holiday gets its beginning marked with the first day in the Lunar Year; however, its preparation starts long before that. One week before the holiday, in the 23rd day of the last Lunar month, is East Day—a ritual worshiping Kitchen Gods (Tao Cong). It is believed that each year on this day, these Gods go to heaven to tell Jade Emperor about all activities of households on earth. On the New Year’s Eve, they return to earth to continue their duties as taking care of families.
On the New Year’s Day, the first ones who come to visit households—called first-foot—are very important and hence need to be well chosen, as they are believed to hold in their hands the entire luck of the family in New Year (Tan Nien). After that, till the third day or even the fourth day of Tet, individuals meet relatives, friends and colleagues, wishing them all kinds of good things happiness, health and success.
Mid_Autumn festival is one of the popular celebrations in the Viet Nam. Every year,it's on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. It's organized so that people celebrate the largest full moon in the year. In that festival, children wear masks, parade on the street have parties with special cakes and lots of fruits.

My good mother.
My mother is a person I admire most. She devoted a lot of time and energy to the upbringing of my brother and I. Despite working hard, she always made time to teach us many useful things which are necessary and important in our later lives. Moreover, she is a good role model for me to follow. She always tries to get on well with people who live next door and help everyone when they are in difficulties, so most of them respect and love her. I admire and look up to my mother because she not only brings me up well but also stands by me and gives some help if necessary. For example, when I encounter some difficulties, she will give me some precious advice to help me solve those problems. She has a major influence on me and I hope that I will inherit some of her traits. I want to say one thing with her: "I love you so much, the best mother"

Tet, also known as the Lunar New Year, is the most significant and celebrated holiday in many Asian cultures. It marks the beginning of the lunar calendar and is a time for families to come together, pay respects to ancestors, and wish each other good fortune and prosperity for the year ahead.
During Tet, people often clean and decorate their homes with vibrant flowers and ornaments, with the most popular flower being the apricot blossom or the peach blossom. Traditional foods like banh chung (sticky rice cake) and banh tet (cylindrical glutinous rice cake) are prepared and shared among family members. Children receive red envelopes (li xi) containing money as a symbol of good luck.
The festive atmosphere during Tet is filled with dragon and lion dances, fireworks, and various cultural performances. It's a time when people wear new clothes and visit temples or pagodas to offer prayers and seek blessings.
Tet is not just a holiday; it's a time for reflection, renewal, and the strengthening of family bonds. It brings people together to celebrate their heritage and look forward to a promising year ahead.

I live in Ho Chi Minh City, and Tet holiday in the city is very bustling occasion. Within a month before the Lunar New Year, the streets are very crowded, many people go out to do shopping and enjoy the holiday scenery. My parents are busy cleaning the house, and I am busy thinking about what to wear and where to go. Right after we have a break from school, my friends and I spend most of the time on Nguyen Hue Flower Street to take pictures. However, Nguyen Hue Street is not the only beautiful place, almost everywhere in the main streets are wonderful for people to have great pictures. They are beautifully decorated with bright lights, and the apricot blossom - the symbol of New Year's Day can be found everywhere. On New Year's Eve, my family and I watch fireworks from Sai Gon Bridge; we have to go there before nine o’clock to get a good spot. Early in the first morning of the year, we go to the pagoda to pray for peace and health, and then I accompany my parents to visit my grandparents and relatives. Tet is my favorite holiday because it is an occasion to enjoy the festive atmosphere, delicious food, and receive lucky money. I wish that Tet could last for a month.
