Most students, in their own countries have had little opportunity to practise using English. When foreign learners first have the (1) .......... to speak to an English-speaking person they may have a shock: they often (2) ............ great difficulty in understanding. I'll just mention three of the possible reasons for this.
First, it seems to students that English people speak very quickly. (3) ........., they speak with a variety of accents. Third, different styles of speech are used. For all of these reasons (4) ........... will have difficulty, mainly because they lack everyday practice in listening to English people speaking English.
(5) .............. can a student do then to overcome these difficulties? Obviously, attend English classes and if a language laboratory is available, use it as (6) ............ as possible. He should listen to programs in English on the radio and TV. Perhaps, most important of (7) .................. , he should take every opportunity to meet and speak with native English-speaking people.
In addition, the student probably has difficulty in speaking English fluently. The advice here will seem (8) .......... to follow but it's necessary. Firstly, he must simplify what he wants to say so that he can express himself reasonably and clearly. Secondly, he must try to think in English, (9) ............ translate from his mother tongue. This will only begin to take place when his use of English become automatic; using a language laboratory (10) ...listening to as much English as possible will help.

Music therapy is using music to help people with a variety of problems. For example, it can help people with communication and speech problems speak better. It can help people with memory problems remember things from their past. Music therapy can also help people manage stress and be more relaxed. It can even make people with bad pain feel better.

In music therapy, a music therapist works with one person alone or with small groups. The therapist meets with the person and does tests to find out what the problem is and what the person can do with music. Then the therapist decides what kind of music therapy to use. Some people sing, and others might compose music, but a person doesn’t need to know about music to be helped by music therapy. There are options such as listening to music and dancing to music. Research shows that these activities are good for the body and for the mind.

Homes that take care of elderly people often have music therapy programs. The programs help the elderly be more energetic and also help with memory problems. Some hospitals have music therapy for patients who are in a lot of pain. Music can affect a part of the brain that reduces pain.

Trevor Gibbons is one example of a person who was helped by music therapy. In 2000, he was putting in windows on the fourth floor of a building when he fell. He was in the hospital for over a year. He was in a lot of pain, and he couldn’t talk. He went from the hospital to a rehabilitation center that has a music therapy program, and a music therapist worked with him for several years. He could sing more easily than he could talk. Trevor says that music also helped him manage loneliness, sadness, and pain after he was hurt. Music and the music therapist inspired him, and he has written and sung many songs. He has even recorded CDs and performed at Lincoln Center in New York.

(From “Four Corners 4" by Jack C. Richards and David Bohlke)

According to paragraph 1, music can be helpful for all of the following people EXCEPT _________.

A. people with good stress management

B. people with communication and speech problems

Well! I´m good at Mathematics, Art, exploring or discovering new things… I like English, socializing and Science... I don´t have a special hobby, but in my free time (if this can be considered!!) I like singing, writing lyrics in English, searching for information about many things, taking photos and travelling.

With so many things I like, I think that every job can be “acceptable”, except jobs where the employee has keep himself imprisoned in an office all day long… But the funniest thing is that I’m a little bit lazy and I would like to be a singer ever since I know myself…

But right now I would like to be a doctor! I know that the bad part is that doctors have to keep themselves in an office, but who cares?!… I like helping people very much and I enjoy learning all I can about everything! I only hope that my future job will bring me lots of success!!!

It´s obvious that when we go to a job interview we shouldn´t chew gum, come unprepared, look down onto the floor, put our leg up or play with items on the desk, slap the interviewer on the hand, be late and talk fast or speak in slang. We should answer all the questions clearly and directly, bring an extra copy of our CV and references, continuously keep eye contact with the interviewer, display sense of humor and self-confidence, dress appropriately for the interview, get ourselves a strong knowledge of the company, industry and position, give a firm handshake, know the company that is interviewing us, look attentive and sit properly and upright in your chair.

I am very worried with the unemployment because if right now there is no work for everybody, in the future this will be even worse … I think that part-time jobs are good, because young people can get some work experience… And when people want some extra money this could be heaven, just joking!!!

Maybe later I will look for one part-time and yes if I could, I would already have one (to buy important things). But part-time jobs have advantages and disadvantages, too! When we´re studying part-time jobs can take us precious we need to study and our concentration…
