Although the United States is a large country with many people, the language is almost the same wherever one goes. There are two reasons for this. One is that people move around a great deal in the United States. Đường sắt, máy bay, ô tô và đường cao tốc giúp việc đi lại ở Mỹ trở nên dễ dàng. Nhiều công ty lớn có chi nhánh ở các khu vực khác nhau của đất nước và chuyển công nhân của họ từ chi nhánh này sang chi nhánh khác. Yếu tố quan trọng thứ hai là phương tiện giao tiếp. Phim ảnh, đài phát thanh và truyền hình đều có cách nói chuẩn và hầu như tất cả mọi người ở Hoa Kỳ đều nghe được.
