Stilt houses are quite popular among different ethnic groups, from the Thai in the Northern Highlands to the Khmer in the Mekong Delta. They vary in size and style, showing off the traditional culture of the people who live in them. These houses are made from natural materials like wood, bamboo, and leaves. They're raised up on strong posts, usually about two or three meters off the ground, to keep people safe from animals. To get inside, you climb a staircase with either seven or nine steps. The most important room is the kitchen, which has an open fire and is where families gather and guests are welcomed. Depending on the group, the houses might overlook fields, mountains, or forests. Some communities, like the Bahnar and Ede, have special communal houses called Rong houses that are the biggest and tallest in the village, and they're filled with traditional tools and items.
