1. Write a paragraph about WATER POLLUTION by answering the questions below:
=======================
What is water pollution?
What are the sources of water pollution?
How do farmers pollute water?
How do mills and factories pollute water?
How do ignorant people pollute water?
How do water vehicles pollute water?
How does polluted water affect us?
How can we minimize water pollution?
=======================

Bài 1:

When water becomes undrinkable and harmful for our existence, we call it polluted. Water is polluted in many ways. Firstly, farmers often use chemical fertilizer and insecticides in the corn fields. When rain and flood water wash away these chemicals into the rivers, canals or ponds and water gets polluted thereby. Secondly, mills and factories throw their waste into the rivers and canals and thus pollute water. Thirdly, ignorant people pollute water by throwing human waste and filth from drains and unsanitary latrines. Water vehicles also pollute water by dumping oil, food waste and human waste. By drinking polluted water, we suffer from fatal diseases-and die. Water pollution may cause serious environmental disaster. To minimize water pollution, various measures may be taken. However, making people aware of the dangers of pollution is the best measure to reduce water pollution to an optimum level. Bài số 2 Water pollution is one of the most serious environmental problems. It occurs when water is contaminated by such substances as human and animal wastes, toxic industrial chemicals, agricultural residues, oil and heat. Most of our water bodies— rivers, lakes, seas, oceans, estuaries and underground water sources (i.e., tubwells, bore wells) are gradually becoming polluted. In the course “Covered so far, you have seen how deforestation, urbanization, intensive agriculture and industrialization have caused pollution of water bodies. You are familiar with various aspects of air pollution, including harmful effects of acid rain. In this unit we will summaries various types of water pollution caused by different pollution sources, and also explain some important concepts such as point and non-point sources, biological oxygen demand (BOD), eutrophication, self-purification capacity of natural waters, infiltration of pollutants to groundwater, thermal pollution and pollution caused by accidents in oil tanker ships. In the next unit you will read about the degradation of land resources and terrestrial features of earth. Polluted water may look clean or dirty, but it invariably contains germs, chemicals or other materials that can cause inconvenience, illness or death.

Fresh water is the most important source of life on the earth. Any living thing may survive without food for days however it is impossible to imagine life without water and oxygen. The ever increasing human population enhances the demand of more water for purposes like drinking, washing, performing industrial processes, irrigating crops, arranging swimming pools and other water-sports centres. Water pollution is done by the people of all over the world because of increasing demands and competitions of luxuries life. Waste products from many human activities are spoiling the whole water and decreasing the amount of oxygen available in the water. Such pollutants are altering the physical, chemical, thermal, and biological characteristics of the water and adversely affecting the lives inside as well as outside the water.

When we drink the polluted water, harmful chemicals and other pollutants goes inside our body and deteriorates all the body organs functioning and puts our lives in danger. Such harmful chemicals also disturb the lives of animals and plants greatly. When plants absorb dirty water through their roots, they stop growing and die. Thousands of seabirds are killing because of the oil spilling from ships and industries. High level of water pollution is done due to the chemicals coming out of the agricultural usage of fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides. The effect of water pollution varies from place to place upon the type and amount of water contamination. The degradation of drinking water needs an urgent basis prevention method which is possible by the proper understanding and support from the end of each and every person living on the earth.

In some remote areas in Vietnam, some people do not have enough clean water to use. As a result, they have to use the water from the river or hand-digged wells and they contain some substance that affects health. Moreover, water filtration systems are impossible to meet the needs of people. The authority has applied a lot of solutions and actions but it must take a lot of time and efforts to supply clean water to every house. Furthermore, the rivers and lakes are contaminated by factories that pour waste into them. They should have inadequate waste-treatment systems to filter the waste before pouring it into the river and the government should have new strict laws to prevent the firm pour waste into water. Water pollution causes great damage, it causes diseases like cholera, diarrhea and skin diseases. The fatality rate of cholera has risen recently especially the children under 5. Water pollution can destroy farming and kill animals around the source like fish and some aquatic life. Water pollution can kill plant life, plants died when they were irrigated with water containing heavy chemicals.

Water pollution is the most dangerous and worst form of pollution putting lives in danger.

The highest level of water pollution is caused by the pollutants come from agriculture field because of the high use of fertilizers, insecticides, and pesticides to enhance the production of crops.Factories dump industrial waste into the water or sewage from household is an other cause .

Water pollution can have drammatic effects. In many poor nation, there are frequent outbreak of cholera and other diseases because of people drinking untreated water. Humans can even die if they drink contaminated water. Polluted water can also causes the death of aquatic animals such as : fish, crabs or bird. Other animals eat these dead animals and may be also get sick. In addition, herbicides in water can kill aquatic plants and cause futher damage to the environment.

To reduce water pollution, we should reduce the use of herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers, avoid direct dumping into water systems, take action by actively participating in water pollution prevention.

Perilous pollutants may contain various types of impurities including harmful chemicals, dissolved gases, suspended matters, dissolved minerals, and even microbes. All the contaminants reduce the level of dissolved oxygen in the water and affecting the lives of animals and human beings to a great extent. Dissolved oxygen is the oxygen present in water required by the aquatic system to continue the lives of plants and animals. However biochemical oxygen is the demanded oxygen by the aerobic micro-organisms to oxidize organic matters of wastes. Water pollution is caused by two means, one is natural water pollution ( due to the leaching of rocks, decay of organic matters, decay of dead matters, silting, soil erosion, etc ) and another one is man-made water pollution ( due to the deforestation, set up of industries near large water bodies, high level emission of industrial wastes, domestic sewage, synthetic chemicals, radio-active wastes, fertilizers, insecticides, pesticides etc )
