It's believed that cultural identity helps us identify ourselves as part of a culture.

This can be shown through the language we use to communicate, the food we often eat, the national clothes we wear on special occasions or festivals and cultural praces.

Among these, I think food and culinary traditions are the most important cultural identifiers.

On an individual level, there is a connection between food and each person's family ties.

We grow up eating the food cooked by our mother or other members in our family, so food becomes closely connected to our family traditions.

Many of us associate food from our childhood with warm feelings and good memories and it reminds us of our families and holds a special and personal value for us.

Food from our family often becomes the comfort food we seek when we miss our family or feel stressed.

I still remember a memorable moment when I was a kid.

I could not eat rice because I had a toothache.

My mother cooked soup and brought it to bed for me.

The flavor of the soup became something very familiar to me.

Now, whenever I feel tired or stressed, I remember the soup my mom used to make for me and I crave that soup.

On a larger scale, food is an important part of national culture.

It helps tell where each of us is from.

Each country has its own national cuisine.

For example, Chinese food mainly has sweet and spicy flavor with a special focus on red color decoration.

Traditional cuisine is passed down from one generation to the next and acts as a prominent expression of cultural identity.

Immigrants bring the food of their countries with them wherever they go and cooking traditional food is a way of preserving their culture when they move to new places.

In conclusion, food connects people to their family and nation, so it is a good reflection of a person's culture identity.

Some people believe cultural identity is how we identify ourselves as part of a culture. This can simply be done through the language we use, the food we often have, or the clothing we often wear on special occasions. In my opinion, festivals and cultural praces celebrated and preserved years after years are the most important cultural identifiers.

Through festivals, we want to express our unity as well as cultural identifier. Originally, festivals are special occasions when people at a parular place stop working in order to celebrate parties or events. They are often connected with religious beliefs of a specific group of people to thank God sand ancestors for good harvests, fortune, and happiness.

Along with festivals, cultural praces are unique ways of expressing who we are and what country or culture we belong to. These are traditionally considered the right things to do in a community. For example, Vietnamese people usually go to pagodas on first days of New Year to pray for good health and happiness. Although we are now in modern time, these traditions are well preserved respectably as a cultural stereotype.

As people all over the world become closer and closer, we share our festivals and cultural praces -    the most important features. We organise international festivals and take part in various kinds of cultural events in other countries. This is always the meaningful way of identifying, sharing and preserving cultures.

The LIFE AND DEATH OF PUNK

Although the punk movement didn't gain cultural popularity the late 1970's, the origins of the subbculture stemmed from cultural scenes in the UK and USA earlier in the decade with radical musician such as The Velvet Underground and new thinkers like Malcolm McClaren. As with any subculture, the first stage must be the birth of the subculture which is led by cultural leader. these leaders inspire the styles and values that will become part of the subculture. In the case of punk, McClaren was very muc hthe stylist of the stylist of the punk look, selling daring clothes that the punk culture came to embrace.

Punk began in its fullest form in the 1970s, when the daring and anti-establishment concepts of the these pioneers took a more popular form. Punk sprang up largely as a result of a weakening economy and high levels of unemployment. Social and political problems are often the reason behind the next stage of subcultural development; the subcultural embrace. This is when the subculture is at its most dynamic, and is becoming increasingly accepted.

After that the subculture plateaus. This is when it become stable ans people demonstrate sub-norms which include shared ways of dressing, shared values and beliefs, and shared forms of film or music. in terms of punk, this can be seen in such things as Mohawks, a particularly striking hairstyles, and piercings. Punk often have many facial piercing which make them stand out from the norm. This need for individualism is quite strong in youth subcultures, yet at the same time is a contradiction because these very people are copying from within their groups. A striking feature at this stage is the onset of deviant subcultures, which take some charateristic. As well as often exhibiting anti-social behaviour, they distance themselves from the main subculture by mutual dislike. In the culture of punk, skinhead are an apt example of this, exhibiting all th key features of a deviant subculture.

The important thing to note is that whereas the main subculture continues through the cultural plateau to then suffer from eventual rejection, the deviant subculture continues for much longer. A youth subculture usually fade away after an amount of time as it becomes more and more old-fashioned; something which young people never like to be associated with. the 'accepted' subcultures are then replaced by a newer and more cutting-edge subculture, in the case of punk, dance and new romantic subcultures emerged which saw the end of the established subculture of punk

THE LIFE SPAN OF A YOUTH SUBCULTURE

Intelligent Robots play a vital role in modern days. Besides benefits, we must consider disadvantages when using them.

First, look at the most positive points. Thanks to robots and A.I technology, the number of workforce can be reduced but the production even increases more, especially in the manufacturing industry. The robots can perform the tasks faster than the humans and much more consistently and accurately. They can work at places 24/7 without any salary and food. Additionally, they don’t get bored. In medicine, they helps doctors to diagnose diseases, do the surgeries, especially tiny surgeries with highest accuracy. In some hospitals, the robo pets can help the patients with depression and they keep them active.

On the contrary, robots bring about some troubles. First and for most, training is needed to operate the system, so we need to pay for scientists and trainees, maintenance and reparation expenditure, which raise the cost overall. Another point I’d to mention is the machine malfunction, which creates lots of troubles and confusions, and even sometimes lead to unexpected accidents. It’s reported that a robot in a car manufacturing factory killed a worker. This results in a worrisome of people using A.I for medical purposes. Furthermore, the robots are not able to act any different from what they are programmed to do. With the heavy application of robots, the humans may become overly dependent on the machines, losing their mental capacities. If the control of robots goes in the wrong hands, the robots may cause the destruction.

In conclusion, I suppose that we need to take advantages of A.I to make our life better, but remember its dangers and risks to take precaution timely.

Poverty is no shame

My parents died in a traffic accident when I was ten years old, so I grew up with my grandmother who was too old and weak to work. I had to leave school and did odd jobs to earn a living: selling lottery kets, washing dishes and doing babysitting. When I was 15, my grandma encouraged me to attend evening classes, so I could improve my literacy and job prospects.

After lots of hardship and effort, I completed secondary education and passed a challenging exam to enter Medical University, which is the dream of many students. However, I could not pay the tuition fees and had to reject the offer. The door to a new life was closed before me. I was completely disappointed and saw only gloomy days ahead. Then something incredible happened: I was awarded a scholarship from The Thanh Nien for college students from poor families. This was really a turning point in my life because I could start my university studies and hope for a better future.

Six years of hard work at the university and of trying to live on a very tight budget came to an end at last. Now I am working as a doctor at a hospital, but I will never forget those difficult days. I am planning to set up and run a charitable organisation to help poor students, as a way to acknowledge other people for supporting me.

I've told my own story hoping to encourage other people me to overcome hard times. Don't let poverty defeat you and destroy your hopes for a better future. This is my motto.

Early western travelers, whether to Persia, Turkey, or China frequently remark on the absence of changes in fashion there. On the other hand, people of these cultures believe that there is an instability and lack of order in western culture. The Japanese always boast that clothing in their culture has not changed in over a thousand years. Of course there is considerable evidence that there has been rapidly changing fashions in all parts of the world. Changes in costume often take place at times of economic or social change, followed by a long period without major changes. The beginnings of fashion and the wearing of different clothes in Europe can be dated to the middle of 14th century. The most dramatic change was a sudden shortening and tightening of the male over garment, sometimes also stuffing the chest area to make it look bigger. The pace of change accelerated during the following century and women and men's fashion became more complex and diverse.

Although tailors and dressmakers were no doubt responsible for many innovations in style, the textile industry certainly has been very influential. The four major fashion capitals are considered to be Milan, New York, Paris, and London. Fashion weeks are held in these cities where designers exhibit their new clothing collections to audiences; these cities are also where all the headquarters of the greatest fashion companies in the world are located.

Westerners today have a wide selection choice of clothes available. What a person chooses to wear can reflect their personality or likes. When people who have cultural status start to wear new or different clothes, a fashion trend may start. People who like them may start to wear clothes of a similar style. Fashions may vary considerably within a society according to age, social class, generation, occupation and geography, as well as over the passing of time. If, for example, an older person dresses according to the fashion of young people, he or she may look ridiculous in the eyes of both young and older people. The terms “fashionista” and “fashion victim” refer to someone who slavishly follows current fashions. The fashion industry is a product of the modern era. Prior to the mid-19th century, most clothing was custom- made. It was hand-made for individuals, either as home production or on order from dressmakers and tailors. Although the fashion industry developed first in Europe and America, today it is an international industry, with clothing often designed in one country, produced in another, and sold worldwide. At the beginning of the 20th century, fashion magazines began to include photographs of various fashion designs and became even more influential on people than in the past. These magazines had many effects on the clothing tastes of the public. "Vogue", founded in the US in 1892, has been one of the most successful of these magazines. Though colors and patterns of textiles change from year to year, the cut of a gentleman's coat or the pattern to which a lady's dress was cut changes more slowly. Men's fashions largely derived from military models. Women's fashions mainly derived from geographical and regional customs.

I would like to talk about the Lunar New Year festival, also known as the Tet holiday, which is the occasion expected the most by Vietnamese people every year. The festival usually lasts for around 7 days, and it takes place when a new year comes according to the lunar calendar.

The Lunar New Year festival takes place because it is one of the most well-known traditions of Vietnam. Our people have been celebrating this occasion for thousands of years, and although there has been some recent argument about whether we should stop celebrating this festival, I do not think this activity will come to an end soon, at least not in the short term.

There are some common things that people do during this festival. Perhaps the most important thing is that people who work and study in big cities would go back to their hometown to celebrate the new year with their families and relatives. The new year festival is one of very few occasions that families can gather together, so it is easy to understand why everyone in Vietnam expects this festival so much. Another thing that we usually do is that we give children some “lucky money” with the hope that it will bring fortune to those kids. We also have some other activities such as making “chung” cake, visiting temples and pagodas… and so on.

The new year festival is so important to me and also to all Vietnamese citizens. The reason is because we get more days off from work and study, and therefore we have more time to spend with our families and our loved ones. It is also a great time to think about what we have done in the previous year, and to make plans for the upcoming year.
