Fads and fashions of the nineties in Việt Nam

During this decade, the most common outfit for people was patterned shirts and high-waisted jeans. Especially, teenagers used to wear slip dresses or crop tops. Some fashion fads are popular again with young people today.

In those days, Vietnamese pop and ballad music developed. People used to listen to music on the radio or go to concerts. Music groups started to become popular, for instance Tam ca Áo trắng and Ba Con Mèo.

It was the decade when technology was more developed. Mobile phone started to be used in the 1990s, Mobile-phone was the first mobile network in Vietnam.

Vietnam usually has a dozen storms every year from June through the end of November, and most of which occur in the Central and northern provinces. November 2nd, 1997, however, was an unexpected day when the major storm Linda raged in the South. Linda was the worst typhoon in Southern Vietnam over 100 years. Formed in the sea of the Philippines, Linda strengthened as it moved westward. Later, it struck extreme Southern Vietnam with winds of 100 kilometres an hour. Over 3000 people were reported lost and died. Ca Mau province, suffered a direct hit by the storm, had the most damage. Gusts and heavy rainfalls caused flooding, destroyed crops, damaged about 200,000 houses and left about 383,000 people homeless. Linda later struck Thailand, causing flash flooding and at least 164 deaths. The storm also affected Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Cambodia to a lesser degree.

Today, residents in Mekong Delta still remember Linda after 20 years. The duration of the time is enough for a kid to grow up from an unforgettable event. The memory of a particular typhoon improves everyone’s awareness of natural disasters.

My ideal planet for humans to live on would provide a suitable amount of energy and heat for life to thrive.  I suppose that we will be taller, stronger and more intelligent in our new life. The planet would have a diverse range of landscapes, which has a comfortable climate that was not too extreme, with plenty of freshwater sources and a variety of plant and animal species to support a healthy ecosystem. I expect that the inhabitants will have a strong sense of community and a deep connection to the natural environment, with a shared commitment to preserving the planet for future generations. In terms of technology, humans will invent advanced infrastructure to support modern living, including reliable communication networks, efficient transportation systems, and sustainable sources of energy.

The general opinion abroad is that London has fog or rain or both everyday of the

year,  but on the day I arrived it was fine and warm, there was a bright sun and a

cloudless sky. The next day it was just as beautiful; there was a slight wind that  gently moved the leaves on the trees, and you could smell the spring in the air.

"Life is grand" I thought as I walked in Kensington gardens. It was a straight road and I found the way quite easily. When I got my first sight of the gardens the beauty of it nearby took my breath away. The trees were just bursting into leaf, fresh and  green and lovely, and were beds of spring flowers, red and yellow and blue, in the  beautiful, smooth grass under the trees.

People in light spring clothes were walking about, and to my surprise, they walked not only along to the paths but also across the grass, and no one said a word to them  about it. I had never seen such a thing before.

1. What is the weather like in London according to the general opinion abroad?

2. What was the weather like on the day the writer arrived in London?

3. Which season was it when he visited London?

4. How were the trees in the gardens?

5.Did the people walk across the grass?.

6. Did anyone said to them about it?

II. Read and answer the questions below. (1 point)

There are two types of air pollution. That is the outdoor air pollution caused by factories, automobiles and biological matter. We most commonly associate air pollution with smog and acid rain. That is of course a problem and you might be surprised how aware children are of the air pollution concerns. However, there is also indoor air pollution. Indoor air pollution causes just as many health problems around the globe as outdoor air pollution. And because many people are not aware of it, they suffer unnecessarily. According to the World Health Organization, 2.4 million people die each year from air pollution and 1.5 million of these deaths are caused by indoor air pollution. Educating young  kids about  air pollution can be an efficient solution to this alarming worldwide issue because it can make them somewhat aware of air pollution. They may have heard about the greenhouse effect, global warming and acid rain. These problems may be  frightening for children to hear. However, children also have the power to make changes both inside their home and globally.

6.      What causes the outdoor air pollution?

________________________________________________________________________________

7.      Is indoor air pollution a reason for nearly as many health problems in the world as outdoor one?

________________________________________________________________________________

8.      Why do people suffer from the air pollution unnecessarily?

9.      How many people die every year from air pollution?

10.  What may make kids frightened if they hear about them?
