A: This summer I am going to have a language course in England with a host family. Can you share with me some experience because I have never studied abroad before.

B: Sure! I think you should prepare some presents for the England family, for example tea, coffee or wine… I'm sure they will be happy. Moreover, your small personal belongings should be brought to try to avoid making them annoyed. Don't forget to be tidy and disciplined.

A: Yeah, I will do it. What are the benefits of studying in England that you can have?

B: That language course brings me a lot of advantages. Firstly, I can improve my English skills significantly because I can have a good environment to practice. Secondly, studying abroad helps me gain more confidence and independence because I have to do everything alone.

A: Sounds interesting! What should I do if I miss my family so much?

B: I used to think that. Don't worry, every day you ought to spend at least 30 minutes making a video call for your parents to tell what happened to you every day. If you feel alone, chat with your close friend to share your experience. These are two helpful methods, I think.

A: How can I stay safe during the time I study there?

B: In my experience, you ought not to keep all your money in one location In case you forget or lose it. I don't think you should go out at night to a dark or non-tourist area. It is very dangerous.

A: Nghe có vẻ thú vị!

Let's see if you can correctly answer the following question: At what age are Latter-day Saint youth allowed to date? Of course, you probably immediately said, "16". OK, then, how about this one: At what age are you allowed to have a boyfriend or girlfriend? You may be thinking, “Um, 16. Didn't I just answer that?" Well, if that was your answer, then, even though you aced the first question, you missed the second one. Just because you can date when you turn 16 doesn't mean you should immediately start looking for a steady boyfriend or girlfriend. [….]

To begin with, there are two different types of dating: casual dating and steady (or serious) dating. The distinction between the two has to do with exclusivity. With casual dating, there is no exclusivity. The two people aren't “a couple” or “an item”, and they don't refer to each other as a “boyfriend” or “girlfriend”. They don't pair off. People who are casually dating are simply friends. This is the kind of dating the Church encourages you to do after you turn 16. You should put aside a need to find a “one and only”. If you're dating casually, you don't expect a relationship to become a romance. You have fun; you do a variety of things with a variety of people. On the other hand, steady dating means the couple is exclusive with one another. They expect each other not to date anyone else or to be emotionally or physically close with other people. Couples who date seriously consider the future, because there is a real possibility they could stay together. This is the kind of dating the Church encourages young adults (generally, people in their 20s) to progress toward, because that's the age when they should be thinking of marrying. [….]

You are planning to visit Bristol in the UK this summer with a small group of friends and have been given a recommendation for a youth hostel. Write a letter to the youth hostel in which you

• give information about your group.

• inform them of the dates you want to stay and ask about availability.

• ask about food and drink.

• ask for suggestions about places to visit in Bristol.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to enquire about a visit to your youth hostel in Bristol next month. I'll be travelling to Bristol with three mates from school. All four of us are female and aged seventeen or eighteen. We're planning to stay for seven nights between 10 and 17 August. Please tell me whether you have beds available for those dates. I'd also like to know whether your youth hostel has a café or restaurant. If not, would it be possible to recommend any places to eat near the hostel which are not too expensive? This will be our first visit to Bristol. Although I have read about the city on the internet, I'd love to hear any tips for places to visit in the city. I look forward to getting an answer from you in due course so that we can finalise the details of our visit.

Yours faithfully,

Hazel Jones

Yes, the writer has covered all four points in the task.

1 Giving information about the group

Thông tin: “I'll be travelling to Bristol with three mates from school. All four of us are female and aged seventeen or eighteen.”

2 Informing about the dates and asking about availability

Thông tin: “We're planning to stay for seven nights between 10 and 17 August. Please tell me whether you have beds available for those dates.”

3 Asking about food and drink

(Hỏi về đồ ăn thức uống)

Thông tin: “I'd also like to know whether your youth hostel has a café or restaurant. If not, would it be possible to recommend any places to eat near the hostel which are not too expensive?”

4 Asking for suggestions about places to visit

Thông tin: “Although I have read about the city on the internet, I'd love to hear any tips for places to visit in the city.”

PREPARING A DINNER PARTY

Giving a dinner party is a wonderful way of entertain people. You can also make new friends and give others the chance to get to know each other better.

It needs planning, though. First, make a guest list, with different kinds of people and a mixture of women and men. Don’t invite couples because they aren’t so much fun.

When you know who can come, find out what they like to eat and drink. Note down any who are vegetarians, or who can’t eat or drink certain things for religious seasons.

Then plan their menu. Include a first course, a choice of main courses and a dessert, plus lots of people’s favourite drinks.

The next thing to do is the shopping. Make sure buy more than enough of everything, and that someone can help you carry it!

On the day, start cooking early. Give people appetizers like Greek mezze or Spanish tapas, so they don’t get hungry if they have to wait. Serve the delicious meal, sit down with your guests and have a good time – you’ve earned it!

What should you do while the guests are having their evening meal?

A. Stand beside the guests without doing anything.

B. Sit down with the guests and have a good time.

C. Sit down with the guests to show your politeness.

D. Only serve the guests with the food.
