BRITISH STRANGE FOOD HABITS
Perhaps you know about some of the food that British people eat, but do you know about their strange food habits? People from different parts of the UK and from different classes call their meals by different names. They call the midday meal, lunch or dinner and the evening meal, dinner, supper or tea. Tea is also sandwiches, cakes and tea (the drink) at four or five o’clock. What
do the British eat when they want something quick and easy? Baked beans, of course! You must warm them in a pan and eat them on toast.
Cheddar cheese is so popular in Britain that people run after it down a hill! This is a very strange English sport. You can see it once a year in Coopers Hill. There are four races, three for men and one for women. At the start of the race someone drops a big, round cheese down a very, very steep hill. About 15 racers run and jump after it. The first person to get to the bottom of the hill gets the cheese.
There is another strange race that the British have. It is a special Pancake Day race. Only women can run in the race. They must run with a pancake in a frying pan and throw it in the air three times. After the race, many English families eat pancakes with lemon juice and sugar. Be careful if you have Christmas dinner with a British family – some of their Christmas customs are risky! Be very careful! Eat the Christmas pudding slowly if you don’t want to eat a coin! When they are making their delicious dessert, British people put a coin in the mixture. The person who finds the coin in their pudding will be rich and happy.

Each nation has many good people who take care of others. For example, some of high school and college students in the United States often spend many hours as volunteers in hospitals, orphanages or home for the elderly. They read books to the people in these places, or they just visit them and play games with them or listen to their problems. Other young volunteers go and work in the homes of people who are sick or old. They paint, clean up, or repair their houses, or the shopping or mow their lawns. For boys who no longer have fathers there is an organization called Big Brothers. College students and other men take these boys to baseball games or on fishing trips and help them to get to know things that boys usually learn from their fathers. Each city has a number of clubs where boys and girls can go and play games or learn crafts. Some of these clubs show movies or organize short trips to the mountains, the beaches, museums or other places of interest. Most of these clubs use a lot of high school and college students as volunteers because they are young enough to understand the problems of younger boys and girls. Volunteers believe that some of the happiest people in the world are those who help to bring happiness to others.

Good morning, everyone. Today I'd like to tell you about life on a planet called Planet Hope.
Planet Hope is in the Milky Way Galaxy. It is three times bigger than Earth. It has three suns and four moons, so the weather is hot all year round, and its surface is quite dry. Planet Hope has only one season.
The creatures living there are Hopeans, and they don't look like us. They have a big head, four eyes, two legs, and four arms. They have thick skin to protect them from the heat. They are very friendly and hospitable. They are only dangerous to people who try to attack them.
Hopeans grow special plants for food. They don't drink liquid water, they drink a type of petrol from under the ground. Hopeans use rockets to travel at very high speeds.
That is my description of Planet Hope and the creatures living on it. I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for listening.
