READING: Read the passage carefully and choose the correct answer A, B, C or D. Telecommunicating is a form of computer communication between employees’ homes and offices. For
employees whose jobs involve sitting at a terminal or word processor entering data or typing reports, the
location of the computer is of no consequence. If the machine can communicate over telephone lines, when
the work is completed, employees can dial the office computer from a distant site and transmit the material to
their employers. A recent survey in USA Today estimates that there are approximately 8.7 million
telecommuters. But although the numbers are rising annually, the trend does not appear to be as significant
as predicted when Business Week published "The Portable Executive" as its cover story a few years ago.
Why hasn't telecommuting become more popular?
Clearly, change simply takes time. But in addition, there has been active resistance on the part of many
managers. These executives claim that supervising the telecommuters in a large work force scattered across
the country would be too difficult, or, at least, systems for managing them are not yet developed, thereby
complicating the manager's responsibilities.
It is also true that employees who are given the option of telecommuting are often reluctant to accept the
opportunity. Most people feel that they need regular interaction with a group, and many are concerned that they
will not have the same consideration for advancement if they are not more visible in the office setting. Some
people feel that even when a space in their homes is set aside as a work area, they never really get away
from the office.
1. The author mentions all of the following as concerns of telecommuters EXCEPT_____ .
A. the lack of interaction with a group B. the different system of supervision
C. the fact that the work space is in the home D. the opportunities for advancement
2. How many American workers are involved in telecommuting?
A. More than 8 million B. More than predicted in Business Week
C. Fewer than estimated in USA Today D. Fewer than last year
3. The word "resistance" could best be replaced by_______.
A. participation B. consideration C. opposition D. alteration
4. Which of the following is the main topic of the passage?
A. A definition of telecommuting B. The advantages of telecommuting
C. An overview of telecommuting D. The failure of telecommuting

Read the passage carefully and fill in each numbered blank with one suitable word or phrase.

In order to answer the question, we must first turn to the types of consumers. four great reasons for high school students to volunteer

Volunteer work presents a great opportunity for teenagers to prepare for the future, as well as to improve their communities. In addition to boosting socializing skills and awareness of local organizations and social issues, high school students who volunteer often may have an advantage over their peers when headed off to college.

1. Gaining New Skills

With each new volunteer activity, students gain new skills. The skills seem to be basic or trivial at the time of training, but may provide fundamental grounds for future success. For example, For example, by managing the receipt, sorting and distributing the donations from community, school students might learn how to use spreadsheets to keep track of inventory. These skills are a great foundation for a job in management, accounting, or running a small business.

2. Giving Time

One of the most charitable acts anyone can do is donate their time and talents. Students who are busy with after-school sports or work to help support their families and still make time to volunteer on evenings or weekends show their outstanding character and resolve to make a difference. High school students may help to mentor younger ones or to assist with one-time special events held on weekends.

3. Showing Responsibility

Just like going to a job, committing to a volunteer position shows a student's responsibility. High school students should get involved in volunteer programs relating to their hobbies in order to naturally build responsibility. For example, those who love to read can find volunteer opportunities with a local library and those who enjoy sports can coach athletics at an after-school program for children.

4. Adding to the Resume

USAID IN Vietnam

Assisting persons with disabilities has long been one of the top priorities for the U.S. Government in Vietnam. Since 1989, with the establishment of the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Leahy War Victims Fund (LWVF), USAID is working to increase the availability of and access to a wide variety of programs benefiting people with disabilities in conflict-affected countries.

In Vietnam, U. S. assistance has helped address medical needs and support the inclusion of Vietnamese with disabilities into all aspects of society. The U.S. Government has contributed more than $80 million in assistance to persons with disabilities, has improved the lives of more than 30,000 persons with disabilities, and has strengthened the Government of Vietnam’s capacity to provide high quality services to those in need. USAID has provided rehabilitation services for tens of thousands of persons with disabilities, education and vocational training including information technology, job placement, supporting parent associations to expand the advocacy for disability issues, and support for the development of legal codes to improve physical accessibility for persons with disabilities in public buildings.

USAID'S work supporting persons with disabilities is also viewed by many as contributing to successful US-Vietnam cooperation to overcome the painful past shared by the two countries. Program activities work in three areas: policy advocacy and coordination, direct assistance including occupational and physical therapy and providing assistive devices, and health systems strengthening, to provide quality disabilities-related care and treatment. Persons with disabilities have been more readily integrated into society by improving their access to health, education and social services. USAID programs support local governments in implementing the national disability law and the U.N. Convention on the rights of Persons with disabilities, and influencing public policies that affect the lives of persons with disabilities.

Completing a marathon is considered very difficult, many coaches believe that it is possible for anyone who is willing to put in the time and effort. Obviously, most participants do not run a marathon to win. More important for most runners is their personal finish time and their placement within their specific age group and gender. Another very important goal is to break certain time barriers. For example, ambitious recreational first-timers often try to run the marathon under 4 hours; more competitive runners will attempt to run under 3 hours. Many runners then prefer to finish for example in 3:29:59, which makes them " sub-3:30h marathoners ", instead of 3:30:01.

For most runners, the marathon is the longest run they have ever attempted. Many coaches believe that the most important element in marathon training is the long run. Recreational runners commonly try to reach a maximum of about 20 miles in their longest weekly run and about 40 miles a week in total when training for the marathon. More experienced marathoners may run a longer distance. During marathon training, adequate recovery time is crucial. If fatigue or pain is felt, it is recommended to take a kreak for a couple of days or more to let the body heal. Overtraining is a condition that results from not getting enough rest to allow the body to recover from difficult training. It can actually result in a lower endurance and speed and place a runner at a greater risk of injury.

1. A beauty contest is a competition based mainly, though not always entirely , on the physical beauty of its contestants. But it doesn’t involve of their personalities , and questions they answer and how they answer them . Almost invariably, competitions for men and women are separate events, and those for men are not referred to as beauty contests . Beauty contests for women are more common , and winners are called beauty queens. Beauty contests for men , like Mr. Universe, are more likely to be “body building” contests quite unlike the traditional “beauty contests” in which women are judged upon many attributes both physical and otherwise . However, in the 1990s, male “beauty contests” began to shift focus. Instead of only considering muscle mass, the competitions began to judge the natural physical attributes of the contestants as well as their physiques. These include Mr. World and Manhunt International.

A. he should continue the training B. he should quit running forever

C. it is time for him to stop his training D. he should take a break for several days
