Earthquakes
Earthquakes are among the deadliest natural disasters, causing the largest numbers of casualties, the highest death tolls, and the greatest destruction. In 1556 in China, the deadliest earthquake in history killed 830,000 people. But many other earthquakes have caused the deaths of more than 100,000 people, and it is not unusual, even in modern times, for an earthquake death toll to reach 20,000 to 30,000 people with hundreds of thousands left homeless and with countless injured. The floodwaters of the 2004 tsunami in Sumatra, which killed over 200,000 people, were caused by a catastrophic earthquake.

WHO IS REALLY ON THE INTERNET?
One of the great things about the Internet, as well as one of its biggest problems, is that people are basically anonymous on it. In Internet chat rooms and web cafés, people can use a different name and even create an entirely different identity if they want to. In some ways, this is a good thing. For many people, it gives them the chance to
do things that they could never do in real life. For example, a person might be very shy in real life, but that same person may find the courage to make friends on the Internet because it feels safer. In addition, people in some countries are not free to express their opinions, especially if they don‟t like the government. By using a different identity on the Internet, they can express their opinions without worrying about getting in trouble.
That same freedom to be “another person” on the Internet, however, causes many problems as well. The major problem is Internet fraud. Many dishonest people use the Internet to pretend to be a different person. Then they trick a person into trusting them in some way and take their money. In one case, two Japanese men lied to Filipinos who wanted to travel to Japan. The two Japanese men told them that they could help them get
visas to Japan for a small price (about400perperson).ThetwoJapanesementookthousandsofdollarsfromhopefulFilipinos,butnoneofthepeopleevergottheirvisas.Thenumberofthesekindsofcrimeisquicklyrising.Lastyear,Internetcriminalsstole350 million from trusting people. When you consider that only $ 57 million was stolen in bank robberies in all of Europe, it is easy to see that Internet crime is a serious
problem.

deterrent - inalienable - human being - offenders - deaths - executed - abuses - irreversible -tolerate - crime rates - execution - abolishes - right - death penalty - capital punishment -innocents - tortures - fundamental rights - imprisonment - revenge
There are many arguments against the death penalty. It’s not a (1)... deterrent......... against the crimes that it punishes. Societies who use the death penalty don’t have lower (2).... crime rates......When a country (3)... abolishes....... the death penalty, they are not plunged into criminal chaos. But even if the (4).. death penalty...... did reduce crime rates, would it then be acceptable? The death penalty targets the economically disadvantaged, those who can’t afford good, legal counsel those without a voice in society. There’s a saying in the US:” (5)... capital punishment....... means that those without a capital get the punishment”. Statistics show this is true. But would it be acceptable, if people from all sections of society were (6)... executed...? Does killing a rich man make killing a poor man right? The death penalty is (7)... irreversible...... and results in the death of innocent. When someone is dead, a retrospective pardon is of little use to them or their family. Since 1990 in China, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the USA there have been 51 recorded (8).... deaths...... of child (9)... offenders...., some as young as 14 years old. Even if no more (10) ... innocents...... or children were killed, should we (11).... tolerate....... the death penalty ? The death penalty is never acceptable. It (12)... abuses..... two of our most basic human rights : Everyone has the (13).. right.... to live. No one should be subject to torture |
The death penalty obviously kills people, but it also (14).. tortures..... physically by the brutal nature of execution and psychologically by forcing individuals to wait to be killed. They wait sometimes for decades, while others are led to their (15).. execution.... The horror of this waiting is unimaginable. Human rights are thus called because they apply to all humans, they belong to all of use equally. An attack on these (16)... fundamental rights..... anywhere is an attack against all of us. The right to life is (17)... inalienable..... It cannot be given and it cannot be taken away. No matter how terrible a crime, in a world full of uncertainty human rights are a clearly drawn line; a line between what is right and what is wrong, the line between (18).. imprisonment... and execution. Every individual facing the death penalty is - whatever they stand accused of - still a(19)... human being...... However much we are outraged by their actions, however much we want (20).... revenge ...., they are still human beings. They may well have been killed and tortured, they crossed the line but do we want to join them?
