Exercise 1: I went to the concert last night with my friends

Dear Oanh,

Thank you very much for your letter which arrived a few days ago. It was lovely to hear from you. I am sorry, I haven’t written for you such along time because I studied hard to pass the final exam. However, I had agreat weekend more than every when I went to live concerts last night with my friends. Now, I am writing to tell you how the wonderful concert is.

It is the beautiful concert I have ever taken part in with many people and the miracle of sound of piano. As you know, my pianist is Yiruma and in last concert I couldn’t believe that he appeared in my eyes and gave me a big hug after his performance. I also listen a soothing music which is played by him and other professional musicians. Only when I heard his song from the stage I feel anythings around me seem to disappear and I can fly with many stars on the sky to forget all my fears which I suffered before.

That is amazing.

Let’s come back to my live concert. It is so cool and until now I can’t forget my feeling about it. Do you often to go live concerts? What kind of music do you like listening to? Who is your favourite singer?

I am glad if you tell me about it in the next letter

Exercise 2: We had dinner at a new restaurant yesterday

Dear Oanh,

Thank you very much for your letter which arrived a few days ago. It was lovely to hear from you.

I think the restaurant which you told me in the letter is very interesting. I also like to eat out and I usually go to a restaurant for dinner with my family tiwce a month. Our favourite restaurant is a traditional restaurant in Hang Bong street. It is not big but it is always busy. There are only afew tables in the restaurant and on each table is a vase with lovely flowers. There are plants in the room corners. I usually order the traditional dishes and eat them with rice. For example, fish cooked with sauce, spring roll,…and vegetable and so on. The food is deliciuous so we enjoy it very much. The service is also quick and frienfdly . My family always have pleasant evening at our favourite restaurant.

Shall we go there when you come to visit my family next time?

Thank you for our class’ photo you sent me afew days ago. I was so glad to write for you and tell you about my feeling after I receive it.

That photograph made me remember my old teacher who taught us high school. She is slim with along hair and blue eyes. Do you remember her? Our enghlish teacher, her name is Sara. I can’t forget that days when she played game with us in each class and we sang ‘ Anilmal song’ together. I also remember that She was very sad when our class didn’t do homework and we felt so guilty with her. Then we studied Enghlish hard to fix our mistakes and she was so happy. But now she doesn’t still teach Enghlish in Viet Nam. Ha - our classmates said she came back England with her husband. I hope she would come to Viet nam, I will meet her because I miss her so much. We want to make her surprised. There were many people to join this party and maybe you know some of them. After good meal, we talked and listened romantic songs and danced together. It is so wet here. I am writing to tell you about the weather in my country. In my country, it is in spring with high humidity. My country is a tropical monsoon climate. Broadly speaking, the weather in Viet Nam is dicated by two monsoon seasons the southwest monsoon from April to September and the northeast monsoon from October t late March or early April. Moreover the northeast monsoon effects bring lower temperatures to my city, Ha noi and all days in Ha noi is in rain. In fact, I am fed up with rainy day because I can't go out to shopping with my friend. Only thing I can do in these days is writing letter for you and tell you about the terrible weather here. As you are living in temperature climate It's a great ideal to have a holiday in tropical country like Viet Nam. You can experience sunny and windy days here. So, why do you go to Nha trang beach? It is one of our most beautiful beachs and is in recognition of the world as the most attactive destination in Viet Nam. I am sure you enjoy bathing in the sunshine and swimming in freshwater and surfing. If you like, I can help you book a tour for you to know mre about other interesting places in Nha trang such as temples, pogodas,...Nha trang is also famous for saefood. Tôi xin lỗi, tôi đã không viết cho bạn như cùng thời gian bởi vì tôi học chăm chỉ để vượt qua kỳ thi cuối cùng. Tuy nhiên, tôi đã có agreat cuối tuần nhiều hơn mỗi khi tôi đến sống buổi hòa nhạc đêm qua với bạn bè của tôi. Bây giờ, tôi viết thư này để cho bạn biết làm thế nào các buổi hòa nhạc tuyệt vời là.
Đây là buổi biểu diễn đẹp tôi đã từng tham gia với nhiều người và các phép lạ của âm thanh của cây đàn piano. When school superintendent Russell Dever enters the local coffee shop at around 7:20 A.M., it is crowded with
students. “The line is out the door because our high school kids are getting coffee,” he said. And they are not standing in line
for the decaf – they need the caffeine to stay awake in class. Talk to American high school students and you hear the
complaints about how late they stay up, how little they sleep – and how early they must be in class.
These days, there is increasing concern in schools across the United States about students who are not completely
awake in morning classes. School officials in some states have even changed start times so teenagers can sleep later.
According to sleep expert Mary Carskadon, the fact that many teenagers work long hours outside of the school and have
computers and televisions in their bedrooms contributes to a serious lack of sleep. But, she said, the problem is also due to
biology. As the bodies of teenagers develop, their brains also change. These changes make teens more likely than adults to
have trouble sleeping at night.
Teenagers need at least eight to nine hours of sleep a night, but the average teen gets a lot less. Carskadon’s
study, completed in the fall of 2001 with researcher Amy Wolfson, showed that nearly 30 percent of students in the tenth

grade slept less than six hours on school nights. Less than 15 percent got more than eight hours of sleep each night. Eighth-
graders averaged eight hours of sleep a night, although that age group, she said, needs at least nine hours a night. Even

more remarkable are the results of a 1997-1998 school year study. In that study, 12 out of 24 U.S. high school students who
were part of an experiment at a sleep laboratory had brain wave patterns similar to those of someone with narcolepsy, a
serious condition that affects sleep. “What’s going in on is that at 8:30 in the morning these kids ... would normally be in
school sitting in a classroom, but ... their brain is still in the middle of the night,” said Carskadon.
Parent Dawn Dow says her son just cannot go to bed before 10 P.M. “Last year he was trying to put himself to bed
at 8:30 and was coming in 9:30 and 10 in tears saying, ‘I just can’t go to sleep.’ It is not a case of children wanting to be up
late ... It is a change in his chemistry.”
So would letting teenagers wake up later make a difference? Kyla Wahlstrom of the University of Minnesota in the
United States studies the effects of changing school starts time. She has looked at students in Edina and Minneapolis, two
cities in Minnesota, where public school officials have moved high school starting times past 8:30 A.M. In Minneapolis, the
middle school begins at 9:30 A.M. She said the later starting times have reduced students absences. They have also lowered
dropout rates by 8 percent over four years. In addition, she said, teachers report that students are not sleeping at their desks

during the first two hours of class anymore. She said 92 percent of parents from Edina reported that their teenagers are
easier to live with. The students reported that they were feeling less depressed and were getting better grades.
Big changes in school start times may not be possible in some areas. However, Wahlstrom said her research
shows that even small changes can contribute to a solution to this serious problem.
